i get about 17 mpg which is very expensive. is there an expert in petrol diesel conversions to advice me on a suitable diesel engine to replace with .

There is no economical means to accomplish what you desire. Apart from the other differences in the engine design, which are too numerable to recount here, the cylinder head on a gasoline engine is far less securely bolted down than those on diesels as gas engines rarely develop much more than 10 to 1 compression while most diesels and particularly Mercedes diesels develop over 20 to 1. Then too their are electical harness issues and all sorts of other things, like exhaust, fuel pumps and so on.

As one of your respondents noted in brief, if you want a diesel, sell the car you have and buy one. It will be far cheaper in the long run than trying to convert your car. In addition, even if you did manage to convert it, the bastardized result would have very little future resale value.

You would save thousands by selling your S320 and buying a diesel.
Maybe millions.

You cannot convert it to diesel unless you change it to a diesel engine.
