Under normal circumstances the rear brakes last almost twice as long as the front brakes. So if you are having wear out fast as you say I would suspect you have a problem with your rear brakes.Take it to a good shop and have it checked for a wheel cylinder binding,an emergency brake cable not releasing fully or a self adjuster that might be seized up and not allowing full return of your brake shoes.Good luck.

they shouldnt wear out faster than the front and if they do you might have the parking brake on slightly. Check and see, pull on the brake release a few times to see if it releases. I cut mine but i dont ever use it and its an 84 so i dont want it to stick. I heard you can adjust them by going in reverse in a parking lot and hitting the brake to a complete stop.

because they are crap.
Try replacement units that are high temp/nomex -- usually found at a speed shop.
