It is admirable that you are willing to invest entrepreneurial time at home - in addition to your other job - to help beef up your income. However, you and others who are "marginalized" economically in this country need to -ney, have every right, moreover a moral duty, to be angry about the way things are today for the middle class and working class. While our government has acted in spendthrift fashion racking up a deficit that is unprecedented - even from the Reagan era, regular Americans count their nickels & cents at the checkouts just in the hope to keep from rolling back into their hard-saved 'principals.' We are being made to hold down as many as three jobs to make our meager ends meet. This is sheerly immoral... there shold be assured, minimal, cost-of-living equity in the "system" as we are integral 'cogs' in it. You can only shove so much "product" down the throats of the public, especially in a depressed economy. And, for those doing "whatever it takes" a constant reminder of "the law of diminishing returns" is ever-present. We are FAST APPROACHING (already arrived?) a neo-fuedalist society... and if you don't think we have "royalty" in America, think again. Part of the problem is that our economic system is "product" based ONLY and the "usery" side has been slid "under the table." Australia has not done this because they can ill-afford too. Their population & land mass won't allow it. The same goes for most of Europe. The big corporations act as if there is no end to our resources... and they still put forward and endorse the lie of "free resources" (meaning you needn't even "clean up" or reconstitute the aftermath of your unabashed, reckless consumption of these resources. Thus our issues with air quality, water pollution, toxic waste management, & the illegal dumping of it, are still there despite years of 'crys in the wilderness' from the populace.
So yes, do what's needful for your family, but become an activist to bring Capitol Hill "back into line." If you're not angry, your either dead or not aware. I highly suggest you read "Rule by Secrecy" by J. Maars. There are other books as well that spell out clearly the "freakonomics" that are entrenched and at the root of so many of this nation's ills.

Chardonnay,
At forty-five, your kids must be grwon or almost so. They may need your help and support, but they don't need to be dependent on you. I have a son, married 11 years, who is 29 and has a daughter of 19 months. We are helping him and his wife. But they are not dependent on us. Both of them work and he puts in 50 or more hours a week at his job, plus spending one weekend a month with the Air National Guard. Essentially, he has three days a month free to spend with his family. What I'm saying here is that if you have kids who are, or should be, adults, they have to take the largest part of responsibility for their lives and their own maintenance. And that should free you up somewhat.
Beyond that, I can't recommend any home-based business. I, at 64, have yet to find one that hasn't already been beaten to death and I am very charry about all of them. What I do think though is that it sounds as though you have no long-range goals and this is what you need to think about and focus on. Where do you want to be in a year, five years, when you retired? I'm not just talking about financially. I'm talking about what it will take to make yourself happy with what your doing and happy with yourself and the way you're living at those points. Would going back to school help you increase your income and your happiness? Would a better, higher paying job do it for you? What is it that's going to satisfy you and make you happy that you can get up in the mornings and have your work to go to? What is that will allow you to go to bed every night thankful that you'll be able to wake up and go to your work the next day?
I don't see any short-term fixes for you. It sounds as though you're grasping at straws and you know how much weight one of them will support. You need to think longer term and set some realistic goals for yourself. Pursue them and set an example for your children. You can give them no better legacy than this and everyone will be happy with the new you.
I hope this helps.

You have two options:
1) Find yourself a healthy, happy loving relationship and share your life and expenses with a wonderful, caring person.
or
2) Make sure you campaign and VOTE in the next election to ensure that a successor to Bush is NOT put in place.
The Republican party have no interest in assisting the working mother or supporting the family structure in America.
Their actions show that they only wish to support the rich and divide the nation into a two class structure: Rich vs. Poor.
Good luck single mothers everywhere!
And good luck to their babies!

think of it this way, if you take care of them well, when it comes time for them to pay you back, you will be vacationing in madrid. Being serious now don't vote for bush.
little things like if u smoke that is 24 or more a week in hard earned wasted money. that is 1200 dollars you could use for something else. or if u buy a coffee every morning that is like at least 2 dollars every other day.
most importantly don't vote for bush

What would you be doing if you were financially independent? What do you like to do? Perhaps it is singing, writing, sewing, knitting, web-designing, dancing, painting, jewelry designing. Or perhaps you have a skill related to your work such as bookkeeping, dinner-planning, baking, creating new recipes, presenting storytimes, something that brings you a special sense of fulfillment. Share this with your friends and before long they will be asking for you to do something for them. Go with what you feel joy in creating and others will come forward with requests. Go with your natural inclincations and let come forward what may.

You can sell items on ebay. If you are good at baking try selling cookies or pastries to local coffee shops. If you can sew try making costumes (say for Halloween or a local Renaissance Faire). If there is a stenography (court reporting) school nearby try proofreading. Proofreading is deadly dull and the pay ain't great but you can download, proofread, and submit your documents online and do it on your own time.
