Well, if McCain manages to capture the Republican primary, the Democrat's will have the White House to lose, depending on who they pick.
McCain has a lot of big business Republican backing but rank and file won't vote for him after his unlimited immigration bill.
If there is someone decent to get the Republican primary (and I come close to drawing a blank, here) it could be different.
I think the Democrats have a decent chance at the White House. However, I think they will lose seats in the House and Senate.

It depends on the state. You still have those deep-red states like Texas and pretty much blue-blooded states like California. The Republicans usually triumph in the Mid-West states. Democrats have some Western states, New England states, and a few others scattered around.

Not that this is very scientific. However, history shows that we get tired of a certain party once it has been in power for awhile. So, my hunch is to say that the country will swing Democrat.
I think that the Republicans have ticked off Democrats for just being Republicans and they have ticked off their base because they tried to hard to be middle of the road players. So, again I am going to say that the swing will be towards Democrat. Like I said not scientific, just my hunch.

I don't see a lot of change in the west... but overall..
the problem seems to be... all the republican leaders are soft in the south... so if the dems go with a moderate southern boy like a Edwards or Warner... they could take it... they just need to carry the traditional democratic states and steal one or two in the south...
Maybe frist is the only one who isn't soft... but it's frist... he's like the Republican al gore... has the personality of a tree stump...

If they go with John Edwards, he can probably take the white house back for the dems. He's not the best president, but since when have the best guys for the job been elected? Personaly, I'm hoping for a Gore/McCain showdown.

Right now not very good. Hope and pray for another terrorist attack or millions of people lose their jobs. Then the Democrats can gain power.
