First do bait traps with peanut butter. Second, place traps against the wall/baseboard with bait end against the wall. Mice/rats have poor eyesight and stay close to walls to navigate.
Consequently they will have no choice but to find your traps.
If traps disappear or get sprung and move to a different location, it is a good indication of rats not mice. If so, get the large traps and do the same.

First, get rid of the traps and 'stick' paper. Please do so carefully so as to avoid injuring other wildlife.
Then obtain a "Hav-A-Hart" trap (I think it's spelled this way) usually available at Home Depot or Lowes. If not, you may be able to borrow one from a local animal shelter. These traps work
exceptionally well and are a humane way to solve your problem.
Then, release the mice in a field or wooded area FAR from your house, lol. Also, be sure to seal any cracks or crevices and keep
all food in air-tight containers. Good Luck.

In the market you can buy one of those small electric repellents, you just connect it to any electric outlet and start to work by repelling any kind of insects, mice, etc. in the house. They cost about $20. but it works. I give you a hint: the Avon company sells it.
