I use to work at a gas station for 3 years, I did all the pricing and book work. All sations that I know of add 12 cents a gallon to their cost.

It used to be around 11 cents, but according to the 2006 Gasoline price breakdown, a gas station makes about 1-3 cents a gallon, sometimes they lose money.

It depends on the locality. We used to own some stations- some areas we would make only 12 cents a gal. Some areas, as much as a quarter. Taxes are very very high. So is overhead for a station, particularly if you are buying gas from someone else and don't have a contract to purchase it directly from BP, etc. Also environmental costs and costs for land at a good location are unreal as are labor costs.

Usually a gas station can make as much as 8 cents a gallon or lose as much as 3 cents a gallon depending on competing markets in his area.
Most gas stations make more on their concession sales then the actual gasoline sales.
One of the interesting aspects of gasoline retail outlets is the loss of gasoline due to evaporation from the vented tanks. I've calculated as much as 300 gallons per 10,000 gallons purchased.

Yeah, the state & fed taxes are alot. Don't know what the split between the local station & corp. are though. But I do know that nobody should be making $48 mil a year like the CEOs of some of the large oil companies. That's just silly!! They got us by the short hairs, though.
Much Love!!

i'm not quite sure but i know on the news a few nights ago they want people to pay with cash and not credit cards because the gas station loses money on gas if you use them. because they have to pay the companies.
they even showed where its cheaper to use cash than ur card.
