The original Amityville 2: The Possession, by far the greatest, and although most remakes are bombs, the new Amityville starring Ryan Reynolds is awesome. I love, love, love horror movies, especially ones that are about houses and ghosts. I don't even think of sci-fi as a scary movie (however, i truly enjoyed Signs with Mel Gibson).
Other good ones:
My Bloody Valentine
Happy Birthday to Me
April Fools Day
Sleepaway Camp 1
And of course the 1st Halloween and the 1st Friday the 13th.

my favorite movie remains dawn of the dead (george romero) but it already has a couple of sequels though... i'm quite happy with day of the dead although a lot may say that it was the weakest of the romero zombie films, land of the dead was okay but not phenomenal.
i love a bunch of other horror films as well. i'm a big fan of jason voorhees (and pamela voorhees), freddy krueger, michael myers, leatherface, etc. i love the shining too. and i do think that jaws remains to be the best shark movie there is. the exorcist is one mean movie and it never fails to deliver until now.
i'd like to see more of jason voorhees, freddy and michael myers (halloween - which rob zombie will be directing.) too. i didn't personally like jason x and i hope they go back to the cabin setting because that's more effective for me. i also hope to see more zombie movies, and more hills have eyes films too. and i heard hostel 2 will be released next year, and there's another saw movie this year. there's also this other texas chainsaw massacre movie. so there's a lot to look forward to. :)

When I say "favorite" horror movie, I make "favorite" = "most disturbing" = "i will never watch it again because it was most disturbing".
The only movie that matches that description is, surprisingly, THE HILLS HAVE EYES (new version). It was so disturbing that I considered muting the movie to get through the first 40 min. And that's what I say.
Doesn't it seem like the scariest movies aren't the ones about aliens or ghosts or animals, but humans?

I like Dawn of the Dead by George A. Romero. I don't think their should be anymore sequels to horror movies because everytime we see a sequel we always say to ourselves that it wasn't as great as the first. So to end this on a persuasive note, no more sequels or remakes just originality.

horror is genuinely one of my well known genres yet i imagine hollywood has decreased it to 'gorefest' which, dont get me incorrect, i recognize too, yet there's a diff between genuinely horror and purely distinct blood and guts. fav blood and guts/slasher action picture - unique My Bloody Valentine and the remake became incredibly good too. fav old 'horror' action picture - The very last guy in the international and Panic contained in the three hundred and sixty 5 days 0 (notwithstanding this 2d one is extra of a mystery) Descent became a incredibly good more recent horror action picture. in case you want musicals you would possibly want to inspect Repo! The Genetic Opera! which, back, isnt extremely a 'horror' yet is a great action picture none the a lot less, i favor i wouldve been waiting to work out it on broadway. also, the Reaping wasnt undesirable. sorry im beginning to ramble, yet i freaking LOVE video clips. lol

The original version of "The Shining" is still scary and probably one of my favorites. I don't know of any horror movie that has a sequel do it justice; "Jaws", "Poltergeist", and even "The Ring" weren't nearly as good in their sequels. Hmmm, maybe "Night of the Living Dead" could handle another...
