I've recently noticed here in Pittsburgh that we have a lot of groups for "Blacks Only"... A dating line for blacks only and some fitness centers for blacks only. Would it be different if they were for whites only? or Mexicans only?

Don't you think if it were the other way around it would be pulled immediatly and they would be sued by the ACLU for discrimination?

I think these groups only serve to segregate us from each other. We will never accomplish anything truly grand as long as we continue to put forth effort to separate ourselves from each other, rather than bring us together.

I think that is a complicated question. Every country in the world suffers the same race problems that we suffer here, hence all the Civil Wars currently taking place around the world. What makes the situation in the US unique is that we have allowed ourselves to let others make current generations feel that all black people problems are because of the white man. While that may have been true 150 years and may still have been true 50 years ago, thinks have changed; the problem really is that people have not. How many times a day to you hear 40 acres and a mule? How many times has that been followed up with, "My life would be better had the government giving ME what I deserve."

The ME of course is always some living person who could not possibly have been alive when slavery, in the US, still existed. I always want to say, well the government promised me liberty and the pursuit of happiness, yet I still have to go to work everyday to put food on my table and roof over my head at night. I don't like what I do, but the sub par education I received (again another promise of the government), lack of funds for advanced education and that need to survive required me to just get up and get a job and make the most of it, because the government is not going to do it for you.

With all that said, no WHITES ONLY place could even get a license to open in this country, but every other race gets to exclude white people and that is not racist. I know people who think that only white people can be racist. I often wonder if those people have ever even looked up the definition of racism.

…any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, color, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life..

I can't find one place in that definition where it indicates that racism is a disease of the white man. Yet, I am still told I am racist simply because I am white. The funny thing in all this, my ancestors were poor servants in the South too and 150 years later I will be the first person to graduate from college in my family's history, though it will only have taken 12 years and doing it 1 or 2 classes at a time. Yet, I am still the blame for so many problems when my family and their family worked side by side.

For so long things were for whites only, and when blacks were allowed to participate they got treated so poorly. Like having to come in and out of back doors or not being able to drink from the same water fountain, or not being able to use a rest room. Having a place that is for blacks only is okay it shows how the race unites and supports each other, Additionally if a person of a different race wants to join they can because of discrimination laws that are in place.

I feel that it is okay as long as that group doesn't promote evil or hate. We are in America. We are free to have whatever group we want. Why the KKK still exist. What we are not free to do is to deny access to public programs, such as programs funded by the government.

I think that because of differences in taste and culture, groups are created to meet the needs of a specific group such as a group to address the unique needs of left-handed nose pickers.

Using your example of a dating line for blacks only, there are some people who only want to date their race. Having this specific service addresses that desire.

I understand your concern about thinking that things like this are racist, but I assure you that it is not; it is simply there to meet a need or desire that was not present before. It's not evil; it's not harmful. This is a natural response to past segregation. Blacks were forced to develop their own things. This in no way takes away from what is available to whites.

It's illegal. Just like having an all white club would be. I believe that the African/American Race does as much, if not more than the White/Americans, to perpetuate racism in America. If they want to have their little racist groups / organizations and it makes them feel equal, let them do it. Just don't let me here them yelling "DISCRIMINATION" around me. They can't have it both ways.

It's the same faulty assumption feminism makes:

"Payback makes right."

-But treating people like they were inferior won't raise your own value as a person or make other social groups accept you.

If (e.g.) the black would enslave the white that surely would not cause equal treatments or rights afterwards but only fresh hate...

-Imo you don't have to be white to be a racist.

i think of breed particular legislations is incorrect. i do no longer think of it is going to help something. suitable now Pit Bulls are turning out to be the worst of it. yet on an identical time as American Pit Bull Terriers and different bully breeds could have as quickly as been bred to be aggressive in the direction of different animals, they have on no account been bred to be aggressive in the direction of human beings. that's of their nature to be extremely friendly in the direction of human beings. So any human aggressive Pit Bull isn't following breed regular. it fairly is the undesirable vendors and undesirable breeders that create aggressive canines. It has no longer something to do with what breed they are. some different breeds that get tormented by way of BSL are Rotties, Dobies, and GSDs. And those breeds are no longer undesirable canines the two. I even have met SOO many canines for the duration of my existence, and that i've got met candy canines of each breed, and that i've got met aggressive canines of many different breeds additionally. some you will not assume, like Golden Retrievers and Labs. whilst raised in a loving homestead with discipline any dogs breed could be a spectacular loving relatives better half. i will inform you thru journey that a dogs's temperament has no longer something to do with what breed they are, it has each thing to do with the breeders, and how vendors advance them.

Yes, cuz then the other groups would be racist. Its a double standard in this country, unfortunately. The problem is most people realize there is a problem, just no one is willing to do anything about it.

I guess they serve their purpose as far as community support and such things are concerned.

Other than that, I wouldn't ever join one, just because I hate being categorized like that.

To me, that sounds really kind of segregated.

i think it is good. it doesnt segregate. it just gives people to get together comfortably. because african americans have been facing discrimination and racism and they still do today. if u had a history of slavery and prejudice and still face racism today u need somewhere to be comfortable. and the peoples history still affects their lives today
