and by the way its NOT because the house has reached the appropriate temp. it is cutting off at 85 degreees. It didnt always do this, what is going on??

The compressor could be dying, or your thermostat may be faulty.

pull the front off and make sure the coil is clean and the stat isn't touching the coil...How long does the compressor run for...if its only a few seconds could be the bad compressor or relay...

It could be shorting out...does it have a reset on the cord?
