I'm just wondering how many Americans pronounce Caribbean with the stress at the "be" or at the "rib". I don't know if it's just me, but ever since the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean" came out, I'm hearing more people stress the "be".

Funny you should ask though, my husband and I have been having this argument for about a week now. All in fun though. I have heard it both ways, and from this definition in Webster's Dictionary, you can legitimatly say it either way. So matter of choice I suppose.

If we are describing a vacation or location, we emphasize the RIB part. If we are talking about the movie, we emphasize the BE part. We are a very wishy-washy bunch.
