No and yes. I believe that there will be a single governing authority at some point in the future. My belief is that Earth was created to operate under certain principles. Can those principles be applied without there being a religious influence? Sure. Can every principle that the earth was created to operate under be understood without a "religious" influence. Not in my opinion.
Maybe it would be better to use the term "Spiritual" influence rather than "religious" influence. I define religion as being chock full of uncritical thinkers, people fearful of change, and generally ignorant of what they really believe. Those that understand the Spirit know freedom, can embrace change, and invite questioning.

This is what World Communism is about and it can't work.

Neither can World Christianity, which is along the same lines.

First, everyone has to take a bunch of steps backwards. Try living on 6 ounces of meat per day, the rest rice, potatoes and greens. Water, not sodas or beer or ice tea.

That's how you eliminate famine and poverity. There are 6 billion people only only about 15% of them eat like pigs. The rest live like swine. So, you have to take from the pigs so the swine can have the exact same meal. Exact same.

Want to eat more, we need to crank up production!

Now, how do you get all those Middle Easterner to eat pork or go without meat altogether or only a few times a week?

How do you get all those people in India to eat cow or go without meat.

How do you deal with food riots? Shoot them? March them off the Guantanimo Bay and hold them there for 10 years?

We'd have to go up to a 12 hour work day 6 days a week to get production up to levels required to supply 6 billion people with some of everything.

No one would ever be "rich." We have the VW and junk all the rest. No Mercedes, no Lexus, no 57 Chevys.

No vacations in Cancun unless everyone can go there.

No inhertiance, exept for a few person things made by the family.

Get the picture?

We'd have to re-distribute doctors from cities like New York to Africa, Asia, India and South America, so that eveyrone can sit in a waiting room for a full day to see a doctor, free of charge.

If you took Bill Gates' fortune (40 billion) and spread it around to everyone in the world, each person would get $8.

Teachers would have to be relocated and spread out equally.

YOU may be shipped off to Africa to work. We send you where we need you. You don't like, the MAN COMES AND TAKES YOU AWAY.

There have to be rules and those rules have to be enforced! Least we find YOU cheating and eating a big juicy steak smothered in onions and mushrooms while the rest of us just eat MUSH.

We'll have to relocate a lot of people from India, Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America to the Northern Industrialized countries and park them in YOUR bed room, and all your neighbor's bedrooms. OF course, it's actually the "peoples" bedroom, you're just a temporary occupant.

Get the picture?

Now, all those willing to go along with this type of a program Raise your Hands and register for the DRAFT into the new world order!

Maybe in 50 or 100 years we can secure everyone a position in the bland mediocre.

Go check the wealth of the ENTIRE stockmarket, divided it by 6 billion and that is what EACH person gets as a ONE TIME lottery payment.

From that they can buy an Xbox, maybe. Or a TV set. Or a old VW.

After that they just live, work and contribute to the gross WORLD product, distributed equally among the LEADERS and the FOLLOWERS.

Hmm one monolithic government devoid of religious influence... sounds alot like Communist countries like Russia, China, and Cuba. That should give you some idea of how good man is at solving problems of war, famine, and poverty without help from God.

Joey.....
You echo the dreams of every maniacal despot and socialist that has ever breathed. Religion, in the hands of egotistical, materialistic and dogmatic men, has caused some of the worst suffering known to man. God is not the problem, however. Mens interpretations, and refusal to surrender control of their hearts to Him, and Him alone....that is the problem. No human who has ever lived, or who will ever live, could govern this planet in any kind of fashion you would call humane. To keep power, and subdue resistance, you must kill everyone who disagrees with you. Do you think this is a good price to pay for one world government? Animals in the zoo do not face the problems of living in the wild. If they had a choice, do you think they would choose the safety of imprisonment? One day, there will be peace and harmony on this planet, but it will not be by the hand of any man, or men, or human political activity. It will occur when enough people recognise that the only One who is fit to lead us, is the One who made us. When once we have aligned our thoughts with His, there will be no more conflict, pain, or suffering. I do not believe that we will see this in our lifetime, but as more of us do align ourselves with His purpose and wisdom, an end will come to the stupid choices we keep making, which cause our pain and suffering. Do not place your faith in man. You will only be disappointed.

Hobbes would be delighted by such an hypothesis !!! A "Leviathan" to rule them all.. and the problems are solved ?
...
You commit some causal mistakes, here, I think. First, even if it's harsh, you may have to think of government-S and religionS precisely as tools (or solutions) to the "problems" of war, famine and poverty. Second, even if it is harsher, you have to think of war, famine and poverty as mere consequences of life itself.. or maybe even solutions of life itself !

i think if there were only one government on earth, it would not only eliminate democracy which the great usa is about but also remember there are far to many minds to be controlled without violence which in my opinion id rather have 2 countries fighting with neutral parties than the whole earth

Maybe, but could it also solve the ensuing problems of cries for independence, freedom, and liberty from a government by definition oppressive, unresponsive, and unaccountable?

Religion is the only way to answer the world's problems. And when I say religion I don't mean Church I mean the Bible.
