In a full service restaurant, they are referred to as "guests". In a pizza place or other fast food restaurant, they are called "customers". I don't know why that is, maybe it involves the money and the time spent in a restaurant. Fast food is usually done through the drive-through, and pizza is usually delivered these days. People go to a full service restaurant not only for a nice meal, but for entertainment and the ambiance. A beer might run you anywhere from $3 to $9 depending on the location, but all of the upkeep and labor costs, not to mention rent paid by the square foot all adds up.
