Are we more isolated than ever, hanging out on forums like this because we crave human contact we no longer get from a flesh-and-blood social circle?

That, I some times have to agree with you, but I think the issue is people don't or can't trust others today so this is the next best thing. You know that there is someone on the other end who will listen to you and not make you feel like you have made a mistake. Or they are there and don't ask you for anything except a kind word. The word 'Friendship' does not have the same meaning that it had when I was a kid in the 50's growing up or in the 60's. Now I am in my 60's and it is not the same. It seems to me, friendship is something your expected to pay for, not given freely.

Could be. I don't think friendship has totally disappeared though. I have alot of friends that I only keep in contact with via the internet. It does get kind of lonely though when your kids move out and it's just you and the dog! I'm probably the wrong person to answer your question. If you think about it, sometimes flesh & blood carries a whole lot of bull$%^ with it, depending on how close you get to that person or other people. If friendship does disappear, I'll still have my dog!

I think friendship is disappearing, but I'm also in High School, so there's alot of drama going on between friends.
My Best Friend of 8 years...Her and I aren't talking anymore, and I don't think either of us ever want to again. She was always talking behind my back, telling lies, etc. and I yelled at her about it, but of course everything was MY fault, and came back on ME because that's just the way she is. Then, today...I got into it w/one of my friends because she has an argument for EVERYTHING I say/do. I don't think people have a good sense of who they are, or what they believe in anymore, and I think there are alot of jealous, fake people out there, and it just creates drama and ruins things.

I believe so. Some people have been hurt so much from trying to be friends only to be used by other people. I know of one girl a long time ago who did everything to try and make friends and trying to keep them. It got too expensive. I have personally been hurt many times trying to be someones friends. So sometimes it may help to come to forum like this.

Keeping in touch with "real friends" is so hard - everyone is going their own direction. While you still get together with them, you still crave the every day interaction with people that the internet can easily provide. Technology definitely has made it easier to find and keep relationships alive. My husband and I met online...enough said.

yes, that is what it means. We've entered the fast lane where no-one has time for relationships, meeting friends, trusting someone else.
Friendship has been reduced to these hit and run chat forums.

yes i think so. i mean real friendship. we all have people we talk to about the ins and outs of the day but do we really have anyone to tell our inner most feeling without issues of trust and humilliation. there has only been one person in my life like that and i miss her deeply to this day.

Neh. Just blame technology. It's just easier to talk to more people via this than dealing with all the crap in person.

I know me and my friends are always busy and we don't want to drive across town to visit.
