The conditions in Louisiana and Mississippi are atrocious and it seems that all those millions of dollars should have made more of a change there than the very slow rebuilding that has been going on. Where is the money and who is in charge of it? How is it being handled to help in rebuilding? Why is there STILL a mass of debris and destruction everywhere?

people from everywhere sent money to various relief orginizations as well as towards local relief. I am not asking about FEMA money, but the relief money that numbered into the millions. people did not recieve money for their homes-look at the insurance companies who are now being sued. So what did the Red Cross and others do with MILLIONS marked to be used for REBUILDING the region?

Have you not been reading about the billions of dollars fraudulently used by scam artists? The government failed to check out who they were sending money to. Your tax dollars hard at work - in the hands of thieves!

I remember reading that alot of the money was used for non-katrina issues, being spent on personal benefits for individuals in positions to get access to donations. True or not, (I like to see physical evidence before I point fingers), It makes me sick. Though I agree with what was said above, that an issue like this would have happened be there liberals in government, or republicans.
Ultimately, there are still people in society that only look out for themselves, despite the tragedy that occured in New Orleans.

Much has been wasted, as is the case whenever government is requested to cough up billions for a program (any program).
Like bees to honey, corruption and waste follow the government outlays. People wanted open checkbooks to address an issue and it could not come soon enough, and they got it. If you want accountability and efficiency, that is an entirely different story and is contrary to the way government customarily operates. That never stops those among us who feel government is society's Sugar Daddy.

They give the money to citizens that are living here in Texas and they waste it at the mall buying large gaudy Louisiana shaped belt buckles...

Most of it was given to the individuals that lost their homes. I don't remember how many thousands each household got. Most did not choose to rebuilt with any of it so the place is still a wreck.

,NOW IT'S CATCHING UP TO THE PEOPLE ,WHO HAD THEIR HANDS HELD OUT,AND NEVER USED IT TO REBUILD . WHEN EVER A DISASTER OCCURS,THE SCAMS START.IN FLORIDA IT WAS USUALLY ROOFING COMPANIES COMING IN, AND THEY ARE NEVER SEEN AGAIN.WHEN THE RAIN CAME ,ALSO CAME THE LEAKS. DAMAGED MATERIAL,WAS NEVER HAULED AWAY. IF MOST PEOPLE RELOCATE,THEN WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CLEAN UP.TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN,START A NEW LIFE,LET THE INSURANCE COMPANIES ,DO IT.BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF THEY GO BROKE.DO YOU SEE MY POINT,ITS A NEVER ENDS. IT JUST TAKES ANOTHER DETOUR.
