A copuple of weeks ago I asked this important question...

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak9wB8Jsiflz44Zmjb9lBwTsy6IX?qid=20060626150448AAzF7tq

I took the plunge and downloaded Napster and bought a 60 download card at Radio Shack for $50. Now I have begun the process of downloading tracks (at .99 a piece) and low and behold, Napter won't "talk to" my MP3 players, which by the way, do not play WMA Files! Since I bought the track, the WMA shouldn't be protected right? But I cannot seem to get any of my WMA/MP3 converters to work, they just crash when I show them the Napter WMA file. What gives? I have bought the track, I now own it, right? Why can't I convert it to MP3 to play with my MP3 devices?

(*RANT* No WONDER so many people just say screw it! And download the files illegally when the legal way is such a pain!)

I know I can do the burn/rip routine. I know there is software to re-record the sound playback. Anyone else have a better suggestion?

Maybe I just have bad converters? How can I tell if the WMA is actually protected? My MP3 players are RCA Lyra's and my car's audio will play data cds burned with mp3 files, but not WMA's.

The WMA to MP3 converters I have are the free one from Jodix and Audio Editor Pro. Jodix says something about it cannot open the WMA file and something about I need a newer version of direct X? Like 8.1 or newer. But I am running at least version 9 or higher. Audio Editor Pro just crashes. (Not very "pro" of it, huh?)

What kind of MP3 player are you using. If you have an iPod, you will have to use iTunes to convert songs and transfer to the player since they use a special compression format for those things to save space. As far as I know, Napster should be able to support most other MP3 player types. I've haven't heard of anyone not being able to convert WMA - MP3 which is kind of curious.
