They are talented musicians but their voices, god kill me. Why or why not like them. Please make me understand. Oh yeah, Bob Dylan is another one. How could they make it so big?

Maybe because they've got a message. They're storytellers, and they're provocative. They make you think.
Neil Young spoke out against the war when it wasn't popular musically to do so.
Billy Joel took major risks in offending Catholics with his popular song, "Only the Good Die Young."
Bob Dylan may not have had the best vocals, but there's no denying that the man is an awesome poet.

As I tend to agree with you about the voice of Bob Dylan/Neil Young, I am going to have to disagree with you on your feelings of Billy Joel. Regardless, these musicians are AMAZING songwriters, as well as musical geniuses of their instruments. Sometimes vocal stylings take the back seat when the lyrics of a song can really make a difference in the world... hope this helps...

I'm not sure about Billy Joel...true he's extemely talented and dynamic, he's just not my cup of tea. Now Neil Young...there's a man after my heart. I can tell he actually THINKS about stuff, and FEELS passion for what he writes and sings about. His music is timeless and unique, as is Bob Dylans. No ordinary or run of the mill dudes!

Neil Young and Bob Dylan are amazing songwriters, and I have no problem with their voices.
I hate Billy Joel, though, simply because his music is simplistic and conventional pop.

They have brainsand talent , their lyrics are intelligent and thought provoking and poetic. Their voices are distinctive. So many pop musicians all sound alike and their music is bubble gum.
