Loss of free will? No, but the coping mechanisms she's built up over the years are probably not sufficient for the wild mood swings she may be experiencing... I was relatively lucky -- I got reamed a few times by my wife (well, ok, ex now, but it wasn't because of this) but later in the day she would appologize and say that she wasn't aware of how sensitive she was at the time and that it wasn't personal... I think your best bet is to wait a bit, till a relatively calm point, and tell her how you feel -- not accusing her, but letting her know that it is causing you distress. Something like "I know you're having a rough time, but I just need to know that you realize it's rough on me too" kind of thing...
At any rate, this USUALLY worked for me!

Give her some time and she will be normal again. Men can't possibly understand the effects of hormones on women (not saying anything bad about men, that's just the way it is). Usually when the second trimester hits it's all a bed of roses and the mood swings make way for a sunnier disposition, though that's not always the case.
Think about it this way. She probably feels constantly like she is at the breaking point of stress, like you might feel after a particularly hard day at work. Only it NEVER lets up. She might feel sick to her stomach and tired all the time too. If you're nice about it the rewards will be well worth a head biting or two.

wow!! Good luck!! I know!! I have never been pregnant but it seems that women get away with this and portray it as such in the movies and everything!! Hormones are a crazy thing.. I have crazy hormonal imbalance during the time of the month and feel better when the "release" comes.. so I cannot imagine how pregancy feels.. It will be interesting.. I hope not to bite my hubby's head off like women in the movies do...

Yep Hormones will do that to a woman, especially if she already has an 8 month old baby. She's looking at a lot of work, plus trying to keep you happy. In reference to your previous question. (How often should I bathe my 8 month old? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkhvkCf9BLrTClTEincjgJfsy6IX?qid=20060707170229AA39O9I )
Hormones do it to a man, too. That little guy just pops up at every opportunity whether you want it to or not. That's why she's preggers. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
{Edit}
Was talking to some friends about this question. If she is working (i.e. a salaried job) has an 8 month old baby, husband, housework, AND is pregnant (possibly in the first trimester) she is suffering from exhaustion, she is NOT at the whims of her hormones. She may not be sleeping well because of morning sickness, so there may be sleep deprivation. Nam vet said sleep deprivation is a form of torture, so it's no wonder she's snappy!

Of course she's still responsible for her actions. However, if YOU know she's being testy, why push your luck?? Don't be stupid. And YES, hormones can and do play a HUGE role in making pregnant women irrational. Its just a fact of life. Get over it ... it will be over in 10-20 years.... About the time menopause hits. Oh, wait... I was wrong. Menopause just exacerbates the hormonal irrationality/irritability. You better leave the country while its still safe to do so.

She still have free will and she is still responsible for her actions, however remember just like when you don't feel good you get short and moody. Maybe you should bring up the subject to her Dr. the next visit. or maybe you can tell her how you feel. Maybe you can give each other clue words when one of you have crossed the line. That way you both can take a time out.

No- She is not exempt from the laws of free will and responsiblity; however, hormones will make her more irritable. Possibly, something is making her uncomfortable and then when something is irritating that would normally not bother her- it will set her off. For example- I was pregant with my 3 child. She would place her foot in my kidney. It was really uncomfortable. I would be irritated because of the pain and then my hubby or other child would ask me something and I would snap at them. It was unintentional but I was unable to stop myself. I would however apologize.

No, true her hormones a off scale a bit, but it doesn't force her to rude. She may just be reacting to being more tired than usual, unless the pregnancy was unplanned, and she resents you for being a part of it. Thats Common. Or she could use the pregnancy excuse to just be a *****.

Think about it like this. Maybe you want to lose weight, but you like chocolate donuts. if I sleep deprived and starved you, then put a donut in front of you, do you think it would be easy to resist that urge?
In the same respect, free will may work as a philosophical concept, but physically, our ability to act on it is limited by our energy and the chemicals in our bodies.

They use the hormone thing as an excuse, much like when their "Aunt Flo" visits them. Everyone has the ability to control what they say and do, bar none.
