superman storyline is flawed a lot that's why it's a cartoon not an anime.

This is a good question here, so listen to the answer. the reason why superman is pervious to Kryptonite is because he is from the planet Krypton. what this means in la-man's term is this. let's say that you went to another planet, and everything about you increased 10,000% that means that you would be able to leap over tall buildings, run faster than anyone on that planet etc, etc, however, because you were born on this planet you ability would be no more than it would be on as if you were here.

So every time Superman gets near Krytonite he is reduced to his normal self, with one fatal draw back. Because he is an alien from another galaxy he cannot really breath earths atmosphere, therefore it isn't the Krytonite that kills him it is the fact that he is an alien from another planet. superman never got adjusted to living on earth, he's just part of the dc universe continuity

Because Krypton was a planet of a red sun, a sun which would make Clark Kent/Superman as normal as everyon else. It is the earth's yellow sun that gives Superman his strength and powers.

When Kryptonite is under the effect of a yellow sun, its radiation creates a red sun effect. Hence, when the man of steel is within its range, it is as if he were effected by a red sun!

The kryptonite was somehow effected by either the yellow sun(which was different that of Superman's home planet) or by radiation in space.

The explanation I read sometime ago was the Kryptonite is Kryptons version of Uranium. The Radiation It gives off is of such a high frequency that it affects someone with his high density. But takes long term exposure for it to harm a human. due to our lack of density. It passes through us like x-rays.

The kryptonite that makes Superman weak is highly radioactive and that's y he becomes weak.

Kryptonite did not come into existence until the planet exploded.
It was safe to live there until it went KA-BOOM!

I would just like to verify that what "rhino" said was true.

It IS because of the whole red sun, yellow sun thing that kryptonite didn't affect his race.

Though it is a make believe story or better called a fantasy, I read in one of the comics it can only affect Kryptonians when they are on earth or worlds other than Krypton.

It seems that the destruction process radiated the meteors from Krypton....that's the only answer that makes sense.
