The answer is a lesson in economics and human nature. The American News Media exists to sell advertising space. The more viewers you have, the more you can charge for your available space. People are attracted by blood and gore and violence much more than by sweetness and light. That is why in a commercial system like the US, only the worst side of anything is shown on the news most of the time. Of course there is also a tremendous left-wing liberal (communist) bias in the entirety of the media society. Anything that will make the conservative (capitalist) side look bad will also get top billing, as long as it is economically feasible. That is the ironic, comic, tragedy of Western media. Let me fill you in. News is about the WEIRD! They don't report all the compliments we give Africa. They report the bad things, because they are RARE. This is how news works.

It is not Reality. It is television, newspaper, etc.

First of all, who are the true Americans? There were millions of people around the globe, who abandoned their own nationality in exchanged in getting american citizenship. Now, those people have different and different types of attitude, cultures and beliefs, some of them are jealous, greedy, proudy and self centered type of people. Real americans, as we know, are the red skin Indians (minority), who were driven off their land when white skin people step in. Most probably, those people doing these are not the true americans.
