Intelligence is both genetic and environmental.....I think that genetics is the starting point of intelligence, but environmental surroundings increase or decrease the intelligence of people.

I am so sick of people asking the environmental vs. genetics "controvery". People have since the crack of age have always wanted to classify things as Black or White. Why becasue it is easier and it is the simplest theory. If you are going to ask the question- add some spice to it.. add a twist.
Black and White is used in childrens literature all the time.. think of the white and black used in the witches of The Wizard of Oz.. and think of how opposites are used.. good vs bad and hot vs. cold and death vs. life.. It is that way to be entertaining to entertain a childs mind. Adults are still acting this way. Nothing is ever ever ever balck nor white.. No question is. No theory is. Or if it is- it won't be for long- people always become famous by disproving and USING THEIR NOGGINS TO DISPROVE or by simply thinking outside of the box with reason. Out of the box meaning to be in the purple area. Completely different form A or B!!

Intelligence in the human race is nurture, not genetic though. We learn from our parents literally how to learn, and if we don not learn how to learn then we do not understand those who teach, it is a rather complicated subject.

Environmental. Some of the brightest people have door stops for parents. I don't see how their lack of knowledge could produce an intelligent being.

I believe it to be both some people are born gifted but others learn from life experiences. But then again perhaps the one who was born gifted will never be able to understand the the intelligence from one who gained it through just living. So I think to properly answer that you would have to ask yourself what is intelligence?

It's both.
Maynardlibras- Unintelligent parents can have intelligent children because of genetic variation. Two parents with brown hair can have a blond child, it is more complicated than that. Also there is mutation which could also account for differences from parents.

"Hey Butthead, were you like, born stupid or did someone like, drop you off a bridge."
"I was born a genius. What are you talking about?"
"So like, stupid is hereditary?"
"Yeah, yeah, heh heh, stupid is to the bone."
So I guess what B&B are trying to tell us is that intelligence, I'll define it as the ability to model and interact with one's environment, is inherent in our physiology; i.e. we're born with the capacity to learn and react to our environment. But the environment within which we exist and our experiences in that environment, provide the data upon which our brains wire an internal model of our environment and then interact with that environment.
