Because you fear that it will go off by mistake and that you will be falsely accused....or...you don't want to be the center of attention with everyone wondering if you're a thief.

Just my guess.

Becauseit is the worst thingin the world for anyone to think that someone is stealing something and they arent- especially if it is you. I used to work for Target and I dont knwo how many people I had tellme that they beeped when they came in (usually due to cell phones or iron in coats or even keys) or that they always beeped when they left the store. I swear, that issue was the one that I could have cared less about. If the Assets Protection(security) wasnt standing at the door, most people wouldnt care. From the viewpoint of an employee it was funnier than heck, but it always terrified the customers.

It could be one of two reasons: either you're too paranoid or you're not paranoid enough. Those sensors are just for the store's interests. Be more worried about the little semiconductive strip embedded in the left side of your fives, tens, and twenties. Be more worried about the possibility of mandatory national I.D. cards, "freedom cages" at protests, the dozens of Halliburton-constructed prison camps sitting idle across the nation, and the fact that the Fed recently stopped publishing M3 currency data.

Probably for the same reason that we are scared of po po and every time they stop you , even though you know you have never did do do squat, you still panic thinking somewhere somehow u forgot to do something and there is a warrant you know nothing about and your *** is going to get hauled off and your kids will freak, your husband will have a cow and you will be stuck in a holding cell with knife carrying whores who hate middle class women who look like they should be home baking cookies.

Hmm.. have you ever walked out of one when you hadn't stolen anything but bought something and the stupid thing went off? Maybe if that happened it caused some sort of embarassment to you and now you are ultra sensitive about it so when you walk though it you trigger that memory causing you to feel uncomfortable and nervous. Just a thought.

Because people want things tha they sometimes can't afford, and have probably at one time thought how easy it would be to just take it, and people like self-gratification.

Also because It's embarrasing when the Wal-Mart sensor goes off with people looking at you like your a theif because the goofy clerk forgot to remove the Anti-theft tag.
