You should be able to buy a home. Since your credit history is less than ideal, you will likely have to pay a higher interest rate to mitigate the risk. If you make your payments on time and interest rates do not rise drastically, you can refinance at a lower rate in a couple of years.

Yes, contact a reputable mortgage company and tell them of your situation. Do not pay for anything (loan application) until you have a full understanding of whether it is feasible or not.
