I'll start off by saying I used to play the bass, but for money reasons I had to sell the basses I had. I still have my Samick guitar and little Fender amp. I've decided to try and start learning guitar now, but I can't seem to find any good, effective ways to learn. I know everybody has their own methods, and certains ones work better for certain people. I also know it's going to take time and effort to get good. All I want to know is if someone has any good websites with tips, or any tips themselves that they used to get to know the guitar a little better. I'd really appreciate the help. =D

JAM! Yep, you gotta learn the basics, practice those chords, arpeggios and other picking exercises for at least an hour or two a day. But as soon as you are able, get together with other musicians. Preferably musicians who are better than you and jam with them. You're learning the language of music-on-the-guitar. What's the best way to learn a foreign language (or English if you're a British baby)? It's to immerse yourself in a situation where you're surrounded by people who are highly skilled in that language. That's how babies go from knowing zero language at the age of 1 to being highly skilled (relatively speaking) by the age of 4 or 5. Immerse yourself in other musicians! Jam!

How long it takes to learn guitar depends on how good you want to get and how much practice you put in. How good you can get with 1-2 hours a day for a few months depends on what methods you use to practice. There are effective practice methods that will help you make the best use of your time. This course is one of the best. https://bitly.im/aMSA9 It's not just about how much you play but how effectively you play that will determine how good you will get.

If they still do business(At the bottom of their site it says copyright 1997) and you have around $40 bucks there's this thing called "Don't Fret Note Map" and "Don't Fret Chord Map". It looks pretty cool...you strap this thing on under the strings and it shows the notes or chords for each fret. http://www.dontfret.com/
I was gonna buy one but...not enough $ in the wallet.
