As i sat and watched the sky coverage of the 7/7 bombings it makes me extremely proud to be a britsh citizen wether i be british muslim or not.
Every single human being has the right to live in peace in iraq or in afghanistan or Isreal or in Palinstine.
As a person who is saddened (and angry because i am bringing my children into a world like this)i am also very proud to be in this country: to have choice and freedom and simply to be the person i choose to be.

To be British is to be part of the most tolerant, caring and forward thinking nation in the world. To be British is one of my most inportant fundamental properties. It shapes me and makes me a better person. Looking at the other nations in the world, i could not imagine wanting to be anything else. I have ancestry from all over europe and respect many cultures, but being British just makes me feel special.

Back in the 1950s many of my childhood friends emigrated to New Zealand, Australia and Canada. They all had the same reason, that Britain was finished and they never wanted to see the place again. We worked hard, lived through the good times and the bad and it is a more comfortable place to live in now. BUT, I know the same thing is happening again.

Last time we experienced a shortage of labour and massive immigration resulted, replacing the emigating Brits with people of a different culture who now live here, have children of their own and dont want to be treated as cheap labour. So what do we do? We send women out to work when many would like to have a second child, panic that we dont have enough workers to support our pensioners and therefore bring in more people to work at slave wages.

Is anyone seeing a pattern here?

As a 17 year old man, joining the Britsh forces, I was very proud to be British.
31 years later sadly, the case doesn't exist anymore.
I live for 6 months of the year now in Asia.
Everytime I return to the UK it is going down the drain more and more.
Crime rises, unemployment rises, the streets get dirtier.
I'm still Britsih and always will be.
Proud to be?
Not any more.

I love my Country but I fear there's not much to be proud of.

This place is going to the dogs, being sold off piece by piece to the highest bidder. We are now at the mercy of so many foreign companies that set the cost of living (gas, water, electricity, Bank lending) and are unaccountable to their customers because of their size.

I fear that nationalism/patriotism is ultimately unhealthy - it invariably creates a 'them & us' dynamic.
Having said that I am pleased to be British, though not necessarily proud - you don't have to look too far to find shameful things in our nation's heritage

Why are you proud of a country that followed us (the US) into a stupid, mindless war? Come on, you know better!
