Its been like this for 4 years now. Just one of them hangs and if you poke at it, it hurts. Its soft to the touch, nothing hard or lumpy inside. Any ideas?

It mostly depends on your age, body habitus (obese, skinny...) and exactly where it is.

In most cases, if you are younger and have soft, tenderness in your axilla, it is usually breast tissue. Does it seem to get more tender/sore with your periods? If so that makes it even more likely that it is breast tissue (similar to fibrocystic breast condition).

Please realize that the tail of the breast goes into the axilla (armpit). In fact, as weird as it may sound, some women (and even some men) have an additional breast in the axilla...some even with a nipple.

It could also just be a lobule of fat (which is what most breast tissue is anyway, especially as you get older).

There is a slight chance that it is cancerous lymph nodes but these are usually lumpy and if it is big enough to "hang" you chould probably be able to feel lymph nodes.

If it's been there for 4 years and hasn't changed much, then it's probably okay to wait and tell your Primary Care Practitioner about it at your next visit or during your next PAP smear/Pelvic exam, though I wouldn't wait more than 4-5 months.

If it is breast tissue and it is bothersome, have your PCM send you to a surgeon to have it removed. It can usually be done as an outpatient .

By the way, if you're over 40 or if you have a strong family history of Breast or Ovarian cancer you should definitely have an annual screening mammography, especially if you're planning surgery on your breast.

I don't have any idea IF there is anything wrong. But if you are worried then you must see a doctor, I think. Otherwise you will keep worrying.

That is so weird. You should see a doctor or something, get that checked out.
