The form 6 (pre-U) Biology class students are forced by the school's principal to take up one more subject, sports science which they have no interest in it at all. They dont even have enough time to study for other subjects which they are taking and now they are forced to take up another subject. Some students wrote letter to the principal asking to make the subject (sports science) not compulsory and offer to those who are interested it in only. But the principal just give all her reasons and wouldnt listen to the students. Even student's family went to talk wif her also o use. Sports science is only part of biology and the biology students really dont have to take it. And the syllabus is not even complete. Moreover, the students are very clear about tat subject and know that they are not interested to join that field of work. They wish to concentrate on other subjects which are already very hard to score in examinations.
Can the principal force the students to study that subject?

But sports science should not be a compulsory subject, other schools are not even offering it for the pre-U students. It's a new subject ( I have to clarify that i'm actually from Asia). We dont even have text books or reference book for it. For the biology students, since long ago until now, they only have to take biology, chemistry, maths and general knowledge. The fifth subject is optional and very few students will take 5 subjects.

Yes, American students are forced to take subjects they really have no interest in either. It's part of the game.

I won't pretend to be an expert in any of the education systems of Asia, but many times throughout my educatioal experience I have had to take classes that didn't necessarily have anything to do with my degree. If the school says it is a requirement, then regardless of what you want you will have to take it. If enough people don't want to take it then they should submit a letter to the principal and to the person in charge of regulating the curriculum, explaining clearly and concisely the reasons why the class is not needed. If they say the class stays, then just bite the bullet so to speak and do your best to get through the class. It happens to all of us at some point.

the state, or province probably is insisting that all students take some sort of sports, and that course fills the criteria without the principal having to hire another teacher. Nobody can force you to take that subject, but the principal can also give you a 0 if you refuse.

if this subject is required by the school district, yes. the students and parents need to take the matter to the school board. sports science is a specialized area, and should not be required. be sure you get on the boards agenda for the nite, then go well organized with all the information you can find. you do not want to come off sounding like a bunch of spoiled brats with doting parents..offer solid reasons, not just complaints. if that fails, go to your state board of education. good luck

I read the bold print but did not want to take the time to read the other crap.
To answer the question: NO. They can make a law that says you have to attend school but they can't make you think.
They can require it for graduation but they can't make you graduate.
You don't need no stinking education. Just learn the magic phrase, "Would you like fries with that.?"

No, you aren't "forced" to take anything. However, the school is also not "forced" to give you a diploma.

If it is a requirement for gradution, sorry but you got to take it.
