My bunnies lived all around the house with the people (no other pets). They hopped back into their hutch when they wanted to eat, use the bathroom, or go to sleep. The hutch was kept in the livingroom so they never realy felt alone. That way they could move around to where they felt the most comfortable, instead of being locked in the same location all day everyday. Bunnies are meant to run and be free!!

The rabbit it look like a cat, they can live alone but if you keep it in a hutch take care don't place them in a warm room or winter were is to cold because they can't go out by themself they are in a hutch, so keep it in summer time inside home were is not to warm and winter keep it in a place were they can stay in warm place but if you have 2 rabbits first don't put together if it a male with a female because you will have 12 and more rabbits and if it's 2 females or 2 males try to put them together it will be better for them. OH! WHAT'S NICE ANIMAL AND NOT HANGRY WITH A NICE FUR, i want have one but my husband don't want, you know you can make some place for them were they can make their litere it's same as a cat with some habit, go to see at the petshop and ask for that and they give you some information.

Hi. I have kept rabbits of years and I also happen to work at an Animal Rehab clinic. I am a firm believer in keeping rabbits indoors: a.)you are better able to enjoy and bond with your pet, b.)it keeps rabbits safe from problems such as fly strike and predators (who even if they cannot reach the rabbit can scare it to death). That said, basements are not a good place for rabbits b/c they are too damp and can cause respiratory problems. Heat can also be a problem so maybe finding a way to keep that extra bedroom cool would be the best possibility. I suggest going to the House Rabbit Society web page at www.rabbit.org for more help.

I had a house bunny for 2 years... I kept her cage in the bathroom b/c it was away from where I slept (they are very active in the wee hours), and the floor was easy to clean. Sounds like a hutch would be too big for a bathroom.
But if you are not planning to let them roam free in your home, I suggest the spot where the air is cooler. Bunnies get overheated quickly.
Your basement would probably be fine as long as they weren't kept in the dark 24/7.

Deffinatly not in the basement.
If it gets hot thats the first problem, they have lovely thick coats so it can get a little toasty.
Also as already mentioned its out of the way. Rabbits are very social animals as well as very intelligent. They need constant mental stimulation otherwise they end up hurting themselves as they go insane. They need to be where the action is. My rabbit lives in our hall way and everytime somone walks by he puts his nose down and asks for some love. They need space to run. When the night comes they will do the bunny 500 where they start running laps of their environment, keeping them in nothing but a cage is cruelty.
As I said they are social animals, they need attention all day and are deffinatly not the animal to have if your hardly around. They love to watch you as you work, their noses will wiggle fast when they see somthing that intrests them, they people watch.
Wherever you put them make sure they have freedom and the place is bunny proof. They think wires are roots and as such need to be chewed.

I have 2 bunnies in separate cages (until I get the other neutered), they live with various guinea pigs. I keep them in a spare bed room that also gets very hot, so I put a fan in the window and turn it on when needed. It keeps the room nice and comfortable for the pets, I have birds in there as well. Every other day I let a buns out (not together until Stewart is neutered as he is too aggressive)...They love the space. I have a flat carpet which is good too because then they can't chew it (happened to me before) and all wires need to be up and out of the way.
Personally I keep my buns in the spare room with a easy listening radio station playing, so far I have had no complaints and I go there everyday, lie on the floor and play with them..
I also have a litter box (clay) for their bathroom duties..clumping is very bad for buns, tends to lead to compaction of the stomach..that happened to me before as well...very upsetting

mine are outside in a big cage. I have brought them in during a bad winter and kept then in the bathroom for 2 months because she had babies. but rabbits are very messy and make giant piles of doo doo. you have to clean it every other day at least or it is bad. every day in the house. put something under the cage or put the rabbit in a box with a screen lid or cage if you have one. bunnies are nice pets just messy lol. I do not know how they make so much poop lol lol lol .

someplace accessable is best - in the basement is easily forgot about and it will be lonely without even seeing you walk by occassionally to break up the boredom.. caged bunnies live boring lives so its important the cage be in an area of activity
