Can anyone tell me where I can learn how to fall properly without hurting myself? Are basic stunts usually taught in acting classes, and if not, is there a way I can teach myself?

If you wish to learn to fall, you should take a stage combat class. While martial arts classes may help you understand your body and will teach you to fall with the least impact, stage combat training is about the look and the sound of the fall. For instance some stage fights will require you to fall and make a sound (known as a nap) during your fall. These techniques aren't generally taught in an acting or scene study class, but in specific stage combat classes.

Dance classes are good for this training too, particularly Modern dance and Contact Improvisation. You'll learn safe ways to find a pathway to the ground. I have always received better instruction on stunts from dancers than from actors or acting teachers without movement training.

If you can't find a dance class, see if you can track down a dance troupe or even just a group of people to practice with. Good luck and don't get too many bruises!! :)

Its pretty easy to fall, but yes, for sports and stuff like that, you do want to learn how to fall correctly. Try going to a gymnastics place or somewhere like that, I am sure that they will teach you for some money. Or like you said, maybe a acting studio would teach you, but don't try to learn yourself, you might get hurt!

Seriously? a Judo class would be a good way. You learn to fall (and be thrown) and land without being hurt. Good luck!

Consult a good Judo or Aikido sensei. Ukemi (falling techniques) are the FIRST thing taught.

I took it in highschool and they never taught us. I guess it wasn't important for stupid little one act plays and skits. I think they would teach you that in a college or arts acting class.
