I found out a couple years ago that I can't have children. I have 5 sisters, all with kids of their own. Recently, when visiting my family, my mom openly told my husband and I that we "don't matter" because we can't get pregnant. Does anyone else see something wrong with that? He and I are looking into alternative ways of childbirth, but now it almost seems like I'm doing it just to please my family. Your opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Your mother is a very cruel woman and I know that if it was me, I would not speak with her again and put up with that mental and emotional abuse. You and your husband need to decide what you want to do in your life as far as other alternatives to raising children. Don't make decisions for anyone but you....and don't discuss anything with your family unless you want to set yourself up for criticism.

Did you ask your mother what she meant by 'don't matter'? I can't believe any mother would love a child less because she can't produce grandchildren! My father once told me that we couldn't expect them to feel the same way about our chosen children as they felt about their 'blood' grandson, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised at how hurtful some parents can be.
Don't let your mother be a factor in whether or not you get pregnant or adopt or whatever, just make sure that when, or if, you have children you never make one of them feel less loved than the other(s).
My story has a great ending, the blood grandson grew up to be a big nothing and my kids are happy and successful.

Well, that's just f*cked up. You should tell her how that makes you feel. Also, don't try to have kids for your "family"... do it because it's what YOU and your HUSBAND want. Good luck:)
