There are several thoughts on what a white bird of any sort might represent. for example, white birds were sometime thought (along with pied-feathered and black birds) to signify misfortune and death. There is a reference to a pair of white owls which would appear to the Wardour family of Arundel, warning them of a coming death by perching upon the roof.
There were seen as birds of ill omen in many cultures and times, though they were held in higher regard in ancient Greece as a bird sacred to Athena.
Various animals and birds—when associated with witches—were believed to have been demonic spirits wearing assumed forms, a solid-black or solid-white coloring was sometimes seen as a sign of this. In modern times, such a coloring of an animal may represent nothing more than a personal preference of the practitioner who desires one as a companion.
Today, the white coloring may often be thought of as a color of sanctity and good (though not in all cultures, it being the color of mourning in Nippon [Japan], for instance).
The short answer is—white birds have a long history portraying them as harbingers of misfortune.

Where is this happening? I saw the most beautiful white owl last year during deer season in my ranch in S. Texas.
I can probably find out if the color has any significance, but the way I understand it 'lechuzas,' the shape-shifting witch of Mexican mythology, are simply large owls. I've never heard of any actually being white, only larger than the common barn owls which are sort of gray.

Found this on the web. Hope it helps... OWL Vision; Silence; Intuition The Wisdom: The Owls Wisdom is Vision, Silence and Intuition. The Owl glides through the night silently observing all that occurs. ‘Night Eagle’ as Owl is called has great vision as he is able to discern the precise moment to launch into action and achieve success. Through silence the Owl is able to strike on the most unsuspecting prey. You will notice that should a threat become apparent in the territory of Owl, he will call out to let all who dwell nearby, share in his vision. The Shadow Side: You do not stop long enough to hear your messages. The Message: If Owl has silently flown into your life today, remember that great wisdom comes from silence, ‘Spirit’ echoes through the silence to send us his messages. It is important to allow the space for the silence, so you can hear ‘Spirits’ words. Great visions abound today for you. Follow those visions and be guided. You will feel the energy shifts within today. You need to cultivate your psychic powers and follow your intuition. Affirmation: Silence brings my messages White means Purity and Truth

You might want to check out the Owl Pages at www.owlpages.com. I couldn't find any references there concerning the white owl, but in many of the Greek pictures of the Goddess Athena, she is pictured with a white owl.

Strega, strix and estrie are all synonyms for "witch", but also mean "owl".
Owls were known as "witches familiars" from achient Egypt, Rome and Asia, to modern Africa and Native America. They represent divine "Yin" or night, darkness, magic, sacred lunar and femine mysteries.
Owls are associated with both conventional and secret wisdom, such as WitchCraft, Magic, Sex, Death and Birth.
They are connected to Shamanism and are thought to bestow gifts of clairvoyance and teach the arts of astral projection; they serve as giuds to the realms of the spirits and the dead because of course they are proficient at navigating the darkness.
Owls are a significant symbol in the anchient naturist religions and at different times through out Earth's history were revered for their characteristic intelligence and feared for the thought that they were harbingers of bad luck or doom.
The colour of the owl would bear little significance on its meaning, but if you are following a path through Wicca or another naturist religion, you might see their appearance as an omen of acceptance in your pursuit.

Well according to Wiccans, an earth baced religion, if you almost kill an owl (hit with a car) then it means a death. It could be a person's death or the ending of a journey.
