How are they right or wrong? For example, I have a stereotype about New Englanders'. I don't get their sense of humor and they get on my nerves. Am I wrong?

I am a black female in a professional school. The competition to get into this school is fierce and when people--especially white people see that I got but other white people did not get accepted, they say, suggest whatever-- it was affirmative action. They do not believe that blacks can compete academically and be better applicants than some whites.

This is very wrong. I have friends who are professionals--lawyers, nurses, accountants etc and they are exceptional people. I have never once heard a black friend of mine say "Thank God for this Affirmative Action program. I am not as smart but I still got in!"--because it does not happen.

I have brillant friends and family members who have EARNED their right to hold the positions they have. They are hard workers and they have paid their dues. They do not need affirmative action to achieve anything--they are excellent competitors and high achievers in their own right.

The first thing that comes to mind is how silly it is that we all seem to be guilty of it to one degree or another. Why else do we all laugh when a comedian makes a joke that is clearly stereotypical? I think that everyone just needs to lighten up.We have become such a "politically correct" society. For almost every stereotype that may irk the person in question that it doesn't fit; they themselves know someone that it does.
Some of the stereotypes I deal with involve people who are either from the city or the country.I was raised in the suburbs of a city and my cousins etc...from the country. One week a year I was the one who would hear, "You aren't from around here, are you?"
No, you arent wrong...only human. :]

All stereotypes are wrong. While alot may fit into that stereotype...not all will be like that. Therefore it is wrong. You are judging someone for race/nationality instead of them as a human being that you have yet to know.
