it is true. yes, these countries are very rich in natural resources but when they trade, money remains in the hands of very few especially top government officials (the politicians) and this money is not distributed down the ladder. They will use donated funds from the developed world for their own sefish personal gain and cover it up. you start wondering how much more money does one person really need. they act like they will take their riches to the grave. as a result of this ,the richest become richer and the poor gets poorer. the govt will not address important issues or come up with solutions. they wait for a developed world or the charity organisations to step in and save their own people and nation. they have brains but dont think and just take away as much as they can while in power till they drop dead.

First of all, Africa is not the richest continent in the world in terms of natural resources. There are, actually, only a few countries there (e.g. South African Republic and Namibia - they have diamonds; Nigeria - it has oil, but that's pretty much all there is) for which their natural resources can make a big difference. The only thing that most of African nations got from the nature is a terribly hot climate that makes farming quite difficult. The other problems of African nations have been mentioned above by other posters, so I will not repeat those points over again.

I am from Zimbabwe Southern Africa, its not that the officials are corrupt its that the International companies DeBeers etc pay peanuts to diamont miners less that 25c a day.
The question is were do the profits go and how are they invested . They go to the European owners how carry the profits to europe and invest there living the natural resource owner without anything thus a vicious cycle of poverty is created, God Bless

Yes, between the Oil up north and the diamonds down south, I'd have to say that's true. Ask a DeBeers to make sure.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but the europeans who colonized Africa all the way back when grabbed all of the natural resources and do not share any of the wealth with the indigenous population.

That it is. Gold, Uranium, Silver, Platinum. Unfortunately, most of this is still taken offshore by international Consortiums, with revenue not benefitting local grass-roots communities.
