Anorexia will delay your period, and also very skinny, low body fat can delay it. Very active females also can delay, or skip periods for years. I was almost 16 when I started... not fret, but you may want to see your doc just to make sure everything is normal and functioning properly.

There are several reason you might not have started your period yet. Sometimes if girls are very athletic they will start later or have very irregular periods. Stress can even cause you not to have a period. My cousin had anorexia when she was about 16, she is 36 now and has 3 great kids. If you are worried you need to talk to someone. Talk to your mom, a favorite aunt, school nurse or if you need to, ask your best friends mom. Don't worry and wait. Talk to someone. And don't be embarrassed. Best wishes.

I don't think so, but go see an OBGYN. It is time to go and see her anyway for health reasons if you are having sex of not. Go talk to them because the Birth control can honestly help balance out your hormones, and that might just be what you need. I had the same problem except on the other hand of the spectrum. I got it when I was 9 years old. Just schedule an appointment and go from there. You'll be ok, and if you want to talk about it feel free to say hi and I will tell you what I can.

all women are different. are you very athletic? some girls who are athletes tend to not have their periods until later on. also, anorexia also leads some women to have periods later, even if the anorexia is resolved, because it does take a toll on the body and your hormones. it also could be genetic - just because your mother got it at 14 doesnt mean you would. maybe your grandma got it at a later age or maybe your aunts did. anyways to feel better about it, go see a gynecologist. :) Stacy, RN

First of all, every girl is different, some have it when they are 9 or even 19. I got mine last month before turning 12. My mom probably got hers at age 13. Second of all, don't freak out. Ask a doctor or nurse and they help you. Remember, every girl in this world is different and do not freak about any thing.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it quite yet. Although not the norm it is perfectly natural for some women to be even 17 before they start their first period.
But of course if you are too concerned maybe you should go to the doctor. I'm sure they will tell you not to worry about it at this time.

Go see a gynecologist.
Damage may have been done during your illness. The ovaries develop over a girl's entire childhood and teen years.
One thing, though, you just may be a late bloomer! I had a friend who didn't get her first period until she was a freshman in college!
Just to be safe, see a doctor.
Good luck!

It can take a long time for your body to recover from a bout of anorexia. 16 is still young. I don't think there's any way to know if the damage you did was permanent - only time is going to answer this one.

Relax and dont worry. Females get their periods at different times. No matter what people tell you there is no normal age when a female should get her period. I didnt get mines until I was 18. So just keep eating healthy and relax!
