I just took a test that said that I am an INTP. I guess I'm one of those introverted people who have a lot of friends, but in gatherings, I prefer to listen and observe than talk. I do debate, however, so I can argue/make speeches in front of other people. INTP's are said to be thinkers, and the most common suggested career is something in science, but I'm more interested in law than in research or math/science.

Yes, It's a good match.

I'm providing a link (below) to a typical chart matching careers to Myers-Briggs personality types. I'm linking to the chart on the U.S. Department of Interior's website because it's more extensive than most, but there are plenty more out there as well. The DOI chart lists INTP as a good match for lawyers.

The book “Type Talk” by Kroeger and Thuesen lists INTP and lawyer as a match as well.

[Added later:]

If you're new to Myers-Briggs personality types, then you might find the following link interesting. It's a table from the Center for Applications of Psychological Type showing percentages of each personality type (and also of each preference) among the general population and among females and males separately.

For anyone else, here are a couple websites for abbreviated on-line personality tests:

P.S. I agree with what jslhart says below. Take the test results with a grain of salt. The tests measure fuzzy qualities and the results aren't scientifically verifiable. Myers-Briggs tests are widely used by career counselors and can't be totally dismissed. But any career counselor will also tell you to use the test results as only one among many tools available for career help. Note the appropriate disclaimers on the DOI table. Don't use the test results to pigeon-hole yourself or restrict yourself.

Don't not base your future on the results of any personality test. Do what you feel is right. Do what interests you - the rest will take care of itself.
