Do you think this does not happen?
Do many Christians only hire from their own faith.

That goes against everything we built this country around. It is bigoted and immoral. Does it happen? YES! all the time! Just like people hire others because of gender, sexuality, looks, race, and every other little bias that they, as employers, have. It doesn't matter what your biases, you will apply them to your life! Christians are no different. They are, in my opinion, often worse! They are very close-knit (I am generalizing, of course), and they are stereotypically known for their exclusion based on their biases and their beliefs.

You ask is it fair, not if it was legal.
First, fair to whom. The employee or the employer?

As a business owner I think I should be allowed to hire whomever I wish base on any criteria I wish. My money, my customers, my choice. BUT the goverment does not allow me to do so.

However, it would be foolish of me to NOT hire the best qualified person regardless of his religion. Better qualified people make me more money.

I really think if a business owner wants to hire only christians (or white, or black, or etc.) then he should have that freedoom. If, for example, a muslim can't get hired he can start his own business and try to put the other guy out. The best example of a free market if you ask me!

I don't think is fair. I even think the employers never should know what are their employees religious beliefs as long they work there. Is none of their business as long you keep it all away from the office.
I also think when we are applying for a job we shouldn't have to answer any question about our personal life (married/single, kids, religious beliefs or stuff like that).
It's not important for the job, is it?

It probably happens in all religions but it depends on what the employers trade is. If I had a Christian Book store, I doubt I would hire an Athiest.

depends on where you are applying for a job at.
Christian schools expect to hire christians, Christian book stores should hire christians...etc... other than that, this should not even be brought up on the application or the interview. If it is, it is not legal.

I work in Human Resources, and I am pretty sure that is illegal and a form of discrimination. There are some exceptions to this....for example you could say that you wouldn't hire a man to be a woman's rest room attendant.

Definitely. I wouldn't be comfortable having a crazy religious guy running an important part of my business. Only sensible people can run sensibly, ie. atheists only.

Actually I think Muslims do that, WAY more so then Christians. I lived in Amman. I would bet on that.
