In my opinion, just based on the theatres and not the shows:
1. Minskoff Theatre
2. Gershwin Theatre
3. Majestic Theatre
4. Neil Simon Theatre
5. Lunt-Fontaine
6. August Wilson
7. Marquis
8. St. James
9. Winter Garden
10. Nederlander

Do you mean top broadway shows?
You could go to the Tony Awards site to see what shows have won awards.
For me I prefer musicals to plays, so my top 10 might be different from someone else's top 10.
Some of my favorites:
Phantom of the Opera
Les Miserables
Wicked
The Producers
Others have told me that these shows are good
Avenue Q
Spamalot
You can get a list of shows on Telecharge's website. Put your cursor over the 'City' menu and select NYC-Broadway

My favorite used to be the Mark Hellinger, but it's a "Church" of Scientology now.
The Walter Kerr is beautiful, and Circle in the Square is a great intimate space for theatre.
In terms of box-office, I would guess that any theatre in the Jujamcyn Organization is usually in the top ten.

I have only been to one theatre in New York to see Lion King which was at the New Amsterdam Theatre and It is absolutely gorgeous. I would definitly recomend seeing a show there. Even the balcony view was amazing.
