why do men cheat?

People cheat because they are selfish and there are selfish partners who will cheat along with them.

This is not a man/woman thing, unless all of these men are cheating with other men. They are cheating with women. Therefore, there are as many women cheaters as men.

Not everybody cheats on their partner, not everyone in an affair is married. But both parties are guilty of violating YOUR vows.

It's not a man/woman thing, it's a character issue, and the character of both cheaters is the problem, not gender.

People cheat for many reasons: variety, boredom, fear of growing old and unattractive, or loneliness within a relationship.
Sometimes a traumatic event like a death in the family or loss of a child creates a barrier between the couple and one person turns to an outside attraction for comfort or relief from the pain.

Some men seem to need to bolster their confidence with an affair if they experience a set back emotionally or lose a job.

I think many people have this choice - to cheat or not at some point in their lives. Some give in to the temptation and regret it for the rest of their lives. Some don't take the opportunity and wonder if they should have.

We are all human and somewhat weak. Those who condemn without knowing the whole story are being a little short sighted.

Of course if it happens more than once that is a different thing. But I think that many people make this mistake.

That is really stereotypical. Did you have a bad experience? A lot of men do not cheat, because most people are good people. My father does not cheat and I do not cheat. If someone has cheated on you more than once, then you need to really have a better judgement on who really loves you.

Men cheat for the same reason women cheat. We, as humans, are biologically predisposed to seeking out the best partner with which to breed. Women look for the best specimen for procreation to enhance their offspring's chance of survival. Men, like many male animals, are simply trying to increase their chances of breeding (this is an innate urge, not a thought process. It's in our nature to try to breed, that's why we have sex, but we have ways of preventing pregnancy).
Simply put (and this may sound crass), humans are not meant to be monogamous, biologically speaking. Monogamy in humans came about through social and religious doctrine. It's not in our biological makeup.

Biology. The chemical high we get from sex is extremely powerful which helps to ensure survival of the species. Most people get a bigger chemical hit from sex with someone new then sex with someone familiar. Through natural selection this tendency would be accentuated by those who seek out this chemical high and end up spreading their DNA around the neighborhood through children with multiple partners and their subsequent descendents.
