It's a loooonnng drive. It takes about 37 hours one way. If you don't mind driving, it would be easier for you to drive for 2 or 3 days. For examples:
2 days=18.5 hours per day
3 days=12.3 hours per day
To make driving less boredom, bring a portable DVD player for your passenger. I get about 10 to 15 dvd movies for free from my local library that I can borrow for a week. Bring books and camera.
Or you can rent a car from Tampa to Las Vegas and drop it off there. You don't really need a car in Las Vegas, as they have monorail and trolley service. You can fly one-way back to Tampa. I believe the last time Southwest was having a sale for $88 one way. Be sure to sign up with TravelZoo.com for email special alert. They are helpful in finding cheap tickets for us.

It's gonna be a LONG *** drive!!! But I drove from Boston, MA to San Diego, CA so go for it! Just have enough money for gas, food and lodging along the way. By the time you get to Vegas you may not have any money left...

2335 miles divided by, say, 25 mpg times $3 a gallon....about $300. plus, you'll need a motel at least one night, maybe two. Food. Water. Then you get there and gamble...and lose. more food. drinks. a hooker, maybe, or at least a strip club. then you drive home.
The Over/Under on the trip hits the sportsbook at $2749. If the hooker is cute, bet the over.

Too far, take a cheap flight out on US Air, Airtran or Southwest. It costs about 47 cents a mile to drive it now.
