Lets make a list.
1. Because America had been attacked by terrorist freaks, and yes children, there was and are ties with Iraq and terrorism.
2. Because Saddam Hussein was an EVIL dictator who had thousands of his own people slaughtered which indicates that there would be no reason he would not do it our people if given the chance.
3. Regime change in Iraq was officially U.S. policy since the Clinton administration.
4. Saddam had repeatedly refused to comply with U.N. mandate as regards WMD's.
5. Afghanistan and Iraq border Iran which is the major terrorist sponsor nation. To put a military presence on these borders only makes sense.
6. To help create a western-style democracy in the middle east, and thus destabilize radical Islamic regimes in the area.
7. I don't know about you but I would much rather this be happening there than here.

President Bush invade Iraq because he know that he could get away with it. No body liked Sadam and he had broken so many UN rules really we should have pimp slap him and just left. Sadam Hussien really doesn't deserve a trail and should be shot. All that money could have been spent better for health care & education.

Good question; I think Bush really believed Hussein to be a threat and that Hussein's sons (who would have taken over after Hussein croaked) would have been an even bigger threat. Given the money that Hussein was pocketing from Iraqi oil, he had sufficient resources to cause the U.S. major grief if he so chose. He also had the motive to do so given his history with the U.S. (recall that he tried to have Bush Sr. assassinated). I also think that a lot of sources inside Iraq told the U.S. what it wanted to hear regarding WMDs. All of this combined with a neocon philosophy of using American power to change the Middle Eastern landscape as well as 9/11 contributed to the invasion. People who say we only did it for the oil are off the mark. Were it not for the oil, Hussein probably wouldn't have the resources to have been a major threat. I do think that we have a plan to suck the Middle East dry of oil (by buying it) before unfriendly regimes can come to power and use it to fund operations against the west. Personally I think this is a swell plan. It also keeps China from becoming a major consumer of Middle Eastern oil (China, btw doesn't give a rat's butt about the threat of terrorism to the U.S. and would have no qualms about buying oil from anyone regardless of the pain it could cause us) It's easy in hindsight to gripe that there were no WMDs, but intel is never as black and white as it's portrayed in the movies. In hindsight I wish we would have toppled Hussein during the first gulf war, but hindsight doesn't help much. Also something really does have to give in the Middle East; we can't keep trying to intercept every would-be martyr out there. Sooner or later one of those little bastards is going to slip through with a chemical or bio weapon and if you think Americans are a bunch of violence crazed cowboys now, wait til that happens. I'm not sure if democracy will work there, but something must change. Personally I confess that I'm glad Bush at least tried something; other tyrants will get the message that you can only thumb your nose at the international community for so long. People also argue that this motivates other tyrants to pursue Nukes; well I have news, they're pursuing them anyway. This changes nothing in that regard. Oil companies have made a boatload of money over the last few years as demand for oil and regional tensions have pushed the cost of crude skyward, but I can't really believe that this was all a conspiracy to make money for oil companies. I expect that most of that money will get directed at finding additional sources of oil, but we'll still be milking the middle east dry for a good long time to come for reasons already mentioned.

Bush invaded Iraq for several reasons: 1) Revenge for the Saddam sponsored attack on his dad's life. 2) Bush truly believed that democracy in Iraq would be like an island surrounded by stormy waters from which to spread economic and political reform. Right now it, Iraq has become a lightning rod for terrorism and extremism. 3) Oil, because it is in his blood, and he can't even comprehend the concept of conservation and alternative sources of energy....

I hope not. We are there and can't just pack up and leave. Looking at history; the Anarchist were active around the world and got a foot hold in Russisa thus the USSR was born vowing to bury the US. For radically islamics to get a foot hold in an oil rich state like Iraq is a nightmare I never want to dream.

Of course not... He probably did it to establish a military presence in the Middle East. The two adjacent countries are Iran and Syria with Iraq being the weakest of the three at the time and holding vast oil fields.

What you should be wondering is why we are occupying Iraq AND afganastan!
Don't you find it odd that these two countrys border Iran to the east and west, respectivley? Iran has been on the United states' "poo-poo" list since 1979! And they are developing nukes, this is not something new, it has been going on for quite some time! So........, if the U.S. decides to invade Iran, how far would they have to travel to get there? Hmmmmm? I wonder!

No, of course not though that was a good enough reason.
Most of you are too stupid to understand this, of course the funny thing is that you are the same ones that think Bush is stupid, Question: What two countries do we currently flank?
Answer: Iran and Syria
Do we really believe this is by accident? Can you be that dense? Has your hatred blinded you to the obvious positioning that leads to checkmate in the war on terror?

No. He was reacting without thorough thought in response to 911 and false information supplied by the CIA. Even the WOMD were so minuscule, his actions were not justified. There are a lot of dictators in the world. Are we to invade all of them?
