button beep switched on ? you know that totally pointless function when you are pressing any button on the phone it beeps it is at its most annoying when you are on a train that is used by school kids texting their mates on the way home all you can hear is beep bloody beep ,why is that function even put onto a phone ? it serves no usefull purpose that I can think of and when I get a new mobile after setting the time ,date, etc etc it is the first thing 2 be switched off if you are able my last 2 phones did not allow the function 2 actually be disabled all you can do is turn the volume down to zero so why oh why is it on the telephone in the first place it serves no usefull purpose that I can possibly imagine yes I do have a mobile which is almost permantly switched on to vibrate especially when on a train and one of my other gripes are the people who I am sure set the alarm to sound every 5/10 minutes then procede to shout business speak into the thing at the top of there voices!

The audio function on the keypad is an irritant that I always switch off immediately, (conserves battery life)

But the thing that bothers me most when on public transport is people actually talking on a mobile.

Other peoples life stories are not something I am interested in when I am trapped in the carriage/bus.

There is a battery operated device available somewhere the effectively jams mobile phone radio waves for various radiance's depending on money spent. I believe the prices started at around £125.

Why can these not be installed on trains and in buses giving us all a nice peace full journey.

Misbehaved children are another bloody annoyance, but that's something else.

I agree with you. It drives me absolutely mad. Commuting is bad enough without having to listen to other people's conversations. I think it displays deep insecurity within that person. "Normal" people wouldn't want others to listen in on their private conversations. In fact "normal" people feel embarrassed when their phone rings whils't on public transport. I will generally ask people to call me back when I get home, unless of course it is an emergency. Unfortunately we now live in a society whereby noise rules. It is everywhere you go and, if its not a mobile phone its a video phone, or an I Pod or an MP3 player. We can't escape it. I don't know where you live, but I live in London and often hear others talking on their phones about work and meetings etc etc. I think this is all to do with status and social class. We live in a very competitive world and the more status you carry, the more degree of self importance and self worth you have. All I can gather is that these people want to share this level of status with the rest of the population. Mobile phones are a great way of achieving this. Personally I find it boring. We live in a very materialistic world, and who has the most seems to have taken over from our list of priorities. Of course this now extends to our child population, but don't get me on a rant about kids. The saddest thing about all of this, is that in ten years time human beings will have lost the ability to communicate verbally with one another, they wont know how to spell and the English Dictionary will become full of ghetto language. It is terribly sad, but I wont wafle on anymore otherwise I might be accussed of being boring and pretentious!!!!!

Keep your hair on old chap! It isn't good for you to get so excited at your age (I take it you're of a 'certain age' and not a parent, to be so intolerant of todays youth). See your GP for a course of Valium before your blood pressure rises through the roof, and of course if it irks you so to travel with the sprogs, you really should try first class...I'm sure the top of the range mobiles used there have all the functions to suit

Yes I agree that it's very annoying !! You just want to hurl their cell phones into a deep dark bottomless abyss, or stomp on it for all you are worth...Urgh!! What kills me is the people who talk loudly...as if talking to someone across a large room!!
