This depends on your definite of "stars in the sky".

By sky do you mean from horizon to horizon? or how many stars in the universe?

Some astronomers believe that there is infinitely many stars in the universe.

An experement was taken by nasa with the Hubble Deep Space Telescope. They took the darkest portion of the universe, and took a picture.

The image they saw was hundreds of thousands if not millions of stars in galaxies lightyears away.

We cannot see these stars through the nakid eye simply because the stars are so far away and the light is so spread out. But this picture was taken from a tiny dark spot in the night sky.

Think about how many tiny dark spots there are in the sky, and that gives you an idea of how many stars there are in the universe.

There aren't any stars in the sky.

Are you asking how many stars, or planets(that are reflecting light) are visible to human beings on earth? We can't really know that just like someone else answered. Scientists take a big estimate of the large number of stars or planets. Think about it, if you find out the amount of galaxies and multiply it by the average number of solarsystems, by the average number of planets and stars, then you'll get a far fetched number of all the stars out there in space.

Malizengin81 - the universe in infinite, therefore, we cannot know how many stars there are. Furthermore, we know there are stars, because we see their light, and at the speed light travels, we probably will never be reached by the majority of them. So, on a beautiful starry night, simply enjoy what is available to you, and then, make a 'wish upon a star'.
Stay well!

actually all the stars that the naked human eye can see are in the milkyway galaxy.(all the stars in the milky way as sand grains would fit in a thimble)

and if you took a boxcar train and filled it to the top with sand and had the train go so fast that 24 box cars filled with sand traveled by in one second it would take three years for all the grians of sand to equal all of the stars in the universe

although through supernovas new baby stars are born all the time so no one really knows exactly

Man, I never realized how many retards were on here. People like to make up stuff and believe it.

I've heard that there are approx. 100 billion galaxies, each with approx. 400 billion stars.

all concepts are dimensional
dimensions with in dimensions
and the numbers relate
to each dimension
there are about as many stars in the sky as there are cells in your brain
give or take a few

we cant count them cause some of them might now exsists any more

the light is traveling still after the sun collases
when our sun blows we would still have light for another 8 minutes
