No, it would be like another Korean War. Technically, that war never ended. We are simply in a state of truce with North Korea. No formal end to the war was ever declared.
Yes, the US has forces stationed in Korea, along what's called the Demilitarized Zone, the border between North and South Korea. In 2003, there were 37,000 troops stationed in South Korea.

I don't think the States will want to risk a war in three countries. They are all over Afghanistan now, they are in Iraq it would be suicide to try and go back into North Korea. Yes the US and many countries that headed up the United Nation went to war against North Korea when China invaded South Korea in the early 50's. There was a TV show on air in the 70's about that war called Mash which was made into a Movie in the early 70's about that war. The war was never settled, since the 50's there has been a demilitarized zone between the two countries. The US is the only country from that war that has troops station on the demilitarize zone. It's a wait and see now. The only allies that North Korea has is China since most of the communist countries that did support North Korea in the Korean War aren't communist power any more. They use to be Russia or the Soviet Union, Poland, Hungary, Roumania, East Germany and there are a few but not many I haven't listed.

Your question implies a biased liberal viewpoint. If you are anti-war person then yes you probably would get a similar Vietnam result. Yes, the U.S. has military bases in South Korea, but I don't know how many. Ultimately it depends on your viewpoint. If you want to win the war, you have to stay the course. The liberals didn't want us fighting in Vietnam and the press had enough pressure to turn the course in Vietnam into a losing war even though we were actually winning. The same is also happening in Iraq. We are winning, but the press is covering it up to support their own agenda. The liberals do not want our troops over there and so they use the liberal media to persuade the general public that we don’t belong over there. Since we have the Internet and other sources other than just the TV and radio outlets, they haven’t been able to totally brainwash everyone. If they use the same tactic in North Korea or any other country for that matter then you are going to get the same result. Yes, I am conservative, and I do believe we are doing the right thing in Iraq. President Bush is using diplomatic means right now to deal with North Korea meaning economic sanctions, but if that doesn’t work then he should use whatever force is necessary to resolve the problem.

It wouldn't be another Vietnam. It would just be a continuation of the Korean War, with a slight change. The U.S. might not have help from South Korea.
After all, the Korean War is STILL going on. Fighting would just resume if it were to take place.
That brings up an interesting point though. Since that war isn't over, does Congress have to declare war on North Korea?

The world is a much different place the soviet union is no longer a super power, china is slowly turning to a democratic nation. North Korea is just an abandoned country looking for a conflict to end it's misery. The North Korean people given the opportunity would move to the south . A great example was the events in East Berlin the wall came down and not a bullet was used. Trying to intimidate the US into war is just a ploy the N Korean government to gain it's peoples control and support.

No, it would not be another Vietnam. More like the beginning of WWIII. Remember the N Koreans are playing with nuclear weapons, which is why it's such a big deal. It's just as threatening as terrorism, but on a much larger and deadlier scale. In my opinion, N Korea is a more frightening threat than Iraq. We could end the Iraqi threat, maybe not end it forever, but put a sudden halt for awhile by dropping a nice bomb. Why don't we do that; because it would open a can of worms and you can believe there would be more bombs to come. Think about it!!

No. The reason it would not be another VietNam is because N. Korea does not honor their leader the way Vietnamese honored and revered Ho Chi Minh. Right now, N. Koreans are destitute and even starving because of their leader's selfish convictions about having anything to do with the West. The Vietnamese feared supression by an outside colonizer (France), and that led to that war. N. Korea can be taken care of if Bush had the brains to send in some of his cracker-jack SEALS or Rangers, et al to take care of a bad leader or two, and then had the brains to leave it alone so they can sort it out INTERNALLY. We would just be spectators of their rehabilitation instead of meddlers. A long answer, eh?

Yes the US maintains bases in South Korea, not sure how many but you could probably search that one. And it would be worse thatn Vietnam. History taught us that. The first time China helped North Korea and we ended up with a 4 year stalemate. your other question is obvious. the Viet cong infiltrated the same way by posing as South Vietnamese.

America will NEVER go to War with North Korea in the conventional troops on the ground way. Their military is a REAL army which we want no part of. We will use cruise missiles to destabilize their government but as with China, we will sacrifice our allies rather than mess with a true army. We had 71 Bases in Korea and our goal is to combine them into 10.

No, it would be worse than the last war with North Korea.
Another war with North Korea would end up being a global conflict because N. Korea would attack the USA's allies (Japan) with short range nuclear weapons. This in turn would cause retaliation of nuclear weapons on N. Korea by Japan's allies.
If China and Russia came to the defense of N. Korea it would be the end of civilization as we know it and lead to the annihilation of all current world powers.
However, I believe that a global conflict against N. Korea would finally remove the current form of government in N.Korea and remove the threat of future violence against the USA and its allies.
