First off i am getting hired at a online university as an admission advisor and i was wondering has any body had the the pleasure of working there. Basically its telemarketing i work from 9-5 mon-tues, 11am-8pm weds-thurs, i can choose if i want to work fri or sat and sunday's i have off. the job pays $20.00 an hour PLUS full benefits and i do mean full. But the job is an hour away from me. My current job is sh!tty !!!!!!!! i work at a salon as a receptionist and it sucks i get paid a low amount for dealing with whiny b!tchy women talking about their hair all day. I stay there all day long 12 hour shifts. Nobody will relieve me!! The only good thing is that its 5 mins away from my house. The reason why i am so scared of taking this job is because i have never worked for an online university and i have never done telemarketing but the benefits of this job is so good.

First, CONGRATS!!
GO FOR IT~ at the same time listen to your "gut" if it feels right DO IT~ I am 2 weeks into my new job and I LOVE IT but I never would have taken the chance if I hadn't been laid off from my last employer (HP). VERY long story short, if it feels right DO IT, you can't guarentee what will happen, but if you hate where you are, Change It! Just be as happy as you can for the 8 plus hours a day that you are away from people you care about.,
Best of Luck to you!.

I tried telemarketing and hated it. Worked a week there. Same thing. Bitchy people that talk crap and hang up on you. I worked on a low commission so I barely made anything if I could not make a sell. Only made 1 sale in a whole week and everyone I called talked major crap to me and would hang up in my face. I would keep the crappy job till I found something better. And a job an hour away as high as gas is. I don't think so.

Take the new job. I took a job an hour away and only 50 cents more a year ago to get away from stress. A year later I am making 5 dollars more and only have to drive 10 minutes. I transferred within the company. Good things may be waiting for you. You don't need stress.

I recently took a job doing close to the same thing, working for a company that services student loans. Im ten minutes from home and LOVE working here (Im actually at work right now!). I would say go for it! What do you have to lose? Its close to your home, has 8hr shifts and pays great. Go for it! Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you can deal with bitchy women as a receptionist you'll have no problem as an admissions advisor. You can do it. Good luck.

i would tell you to way your options..me personally i would go for it.. You cannot beat $20 dollars an hour..and you have weekends off..it is normal to be scared about taking another job..like i said way your options..would you rather have a job that is 5 minutes away that you are miserable at or have a job that is an hour away where you make $20 dollars an hour that you just might enjoy...i suggest that you just suffer for a little while and take the bus or whatever and work on getting your license if u don't already have one and than get a car....i hope this helps....good luck!!

If you truly can't stand your current job and assuming you can live on what the new job pays, this is a simple question to answer - take the new job. No one should suffer with a job they hate and even if you end up hating the new, at least it is a change from what you are doing now... until you can find a job that you can stand. Good luck! :)

if you need strangers to help you make this decision for you then i thing you are better off staying where you are.the reason is you don't seem decisive enough to be handed a job with all that so my guess is the job is to good to be true. how do you treat telemarketers when they call you? do you really want that?

People will always be looking for better choices. This is your chance, do not let it go. You do not have the experience? Well, no one was born with it; it is acquired trough the time.

About the driving time, that will depend on you. I have passed trough a similar situation, and I can tell you one thing, it was not easy; but it was not impossible nonetheless.

May the best luck be with you!

It's going to be a high pressure sales job and you will be expected to meet a quota. If you think you can handle that, I'd say it's a much better job than what you have now. But, I think they are both dead end kinds of jobs. At least one pays better and gives you time to think of something else that might suit you better.
