I'm going to see a bunch of my aunts tomorrow. One has started walking a lot, etc. etc. - she doesn't work full time or anything either... anyway - she's already asked my Baby Sister (22yrs) that. These aunts also came to my wedding 2 years ago, etc. where I was probably 50lbs less than I am now etc. They saw me last year too, but I think that now because my one aunt has lost like 20lbs etc she thinks she's 'all that.'

I really don't care what she says but I want to know a good, graceful, aloof, not offensive, not defensive answer...

Ok guys, even though I appreciate the creative answers, I really want a serious answer. If I'm sarcastic, etc. that will show her that she's getting to me. I don't want that...

...Here are a couple of answers you could give the dear aunties:

"Yes, I know and and you look wonderful." That immediately gets the "all that" aunt talking about herself and not you.

"Oh, I wish someone had told me before I got married how much my husband and I would enjoy preparing gourmet dinners together. It's so romantic." Be prepared though, they may ask you for some recipes but that takes the conversation away from your weight.

And to the dear auntie who says, "What happened - you've gained so much weight!", just respond with a simple, "Yes, I have" and go on to some topic about herself.

Simple minds love to talk about themselves.

Tell them they sure have alot of wrinkles under their eyes, are they sick and not just wanting to tell you about it? Are they getting enough rest? Pile on the concern with a worried look on your face.

Well not much you can say gracefully when someone is trying to "insult" you.
You could just say say something like. 'oh thankyou for noticing' with a hint of sarcasm.

I like Angel's answer, and I'd also repy with " yes, I sure have, and you look so tired, you need to get more rest".

"I fell into a vat of butter and had to eat my way out."
Then, when she's almost out of earshot, mutter, "You tactless old hag..."
I guess that's not terribly graceful, but it might make you feel better.

I'd just say, "Excuse me?" Then when she repeats herself, I'd again say, "Excuse me? I really didn't hear you say that, did I? I thought Grandma taught you not to be rude."
