SRV still blows me away every time I hear his music even though its been almost 16 years since he died. B.B. King called him "flawless". and I have to agree. I've never heard anyone play the blues better, have you?

He was the epitome of modern blues. In other words you would HAVE to be the greatest to out play him.

As master's degree student in guitar and B.A. & B.M. in music graduate, I would have to say that SRV was one of the greatest guitarits ever no doubt. But you cannot call him the greatest with so many many great guitarists out there like:

Jason Becker
Marty Friedman
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Steve Morse
Vinnie Moore
Kiko Loureiro
Paco de Lucia (Flamenco)
John Petrucci
Yngwie J. Malmsteen
Tony Macalpine
Eddie Van Halen (not so unkown)
Wes Montgomery
Joe Pass
Django Reindhart
John McLaughlin
Larry Corryel
Randy Rhoads
Zakk Wylde
George Benson
Andy Timmons
Patt Metheny
John Scottfield
Eric Johnson
Paul Gilbert
Jennifer Batten
Michael Angelo Batio
Allan Holdsworth
Rusty Cooley
Alexi Laiho
Dimebag Darrel
Andres Segovia
Neal Schon
B.B. King
Robert Johnson
Jimi Hendrix
Buckethead
Nuno Bettencourt
Ron Thal
Tal Farlow
Birelli Lagrene
Joe Stump
Vitto Bratta
Eric Sardinas
Stanley Jordan
Reb Beach
Strunz and Farrah
Michael Romeo
George Lynch
Warren DeMartini
Mike Stern
Frank Gambale
Eliot Fisk
Greg Howe
Chris Impeliteri
Richie Kotzen
Jeff Beck
Jeff Loomis
Slash
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Jimmy Vaughn
Buddy Guy
Muddy Waters
Mimi Fox
Katrina Johansson
Pepe Romero

How can you say any of the guitarists in that list is better than the other? I would say however that the most complete guitarist today is Steve Vai, because he has a great combination of technique with feeling to which he adds a master's degree in jazz composition. What more can you ask for?

Hello,
Great guitarist...
Would have been the greatest guitarist of all time in my opinion...
A great loss for the world of music as we know it...
He was so young,we'll never know how much more he would have amazed us as fans...
However i am still amazed when i spin any one of his releases...

Awesome....Very Awesome
I would like to say the greatest because every note carries an emotion, but someone inspired SVR..... all a matter of taste in music.

I especially like the way they would talk to each other when they were playing. It was like they didn't realize how "big" they really were, they were just there to have fun and share what was in their hearts and souls....I love listening to them on my way to the Big Town, which is an hour away. I don't get tired or bored. Thanks for asking.
