a duckling was scared underwater by an adult female duck and after many minutes it did not come up.... i worry it has drowned and died...is it really possible this could have happened?

YES!! I have actually had two drown recently. I know because I had to pull them out of the pond & burry them.

it probably didn't drown, but just swam off some else.. but they can drown after awhile because their down (feathers) can get water logged and then sink or they can get to tired to stay afloat. :(

Only if held under water. I've raised a lot of critters and what I'm telling you is accurate.

very unlikely in a case like that. check this out. my sisters ex-husband was such a goofy dipstick, that he really believed that someone has to teach baby ducks how to swim. Your question just made me remember that story. thanks for the laff. (not at you but at my brother-in-law)

yes, they can't float until the mom secreats an oil, and they have their down feathers
