Possibly where I can get these to buy over the internet. US$250.00 or less for an 500 GB external hard drive.

The easiest thing to do is make your own by buying an external enclosure. Good ones can be found here at the link below for under $30:

It is very easy to put any hard drive into the enclosure. So the price of the external hard drive just becomes the price of the internal hard drive + the external enclosure. Not bad at all compared to the premade ones and works just as well.

Also, check out the Tom's Hardware link below to view a Cost/Per Gigabyte index of current hard drives out. Newegg.com sells harddrives as well for the best price and they have the best service.

Good luck. I put some more links to a good hard drive and a good premade external harddrive below the toms hardware link all under 0.50/Gig at 500GB.

I don't think you are going to find an external 500GB drive for $0.60/GB. Up until recently, the upper limit of hard drives was 400GB. Hard drives use something called "parallel recording" which sets the upper limit to 400GB. Using a new technology called "perpendicular recordingg", hard drive makers have been able to produce a 500GB hard drive. One of the first 500GB hard drives were created by Hitachi. Hitachi produces a 500GB internal hard drive costing $500, which uses the older parallel ATA interface and an 8MB data buffer. This is an internal hard drive. External hard drives always cost more than their internal hard drive counterparst. Sorry, but most hard drive - 500GB or otherwise- sell for roughly 1GB/ dollar. PC World has an article about perpendicular hard drives at
