Been riding for over 30 years and there are two things I consider absolutely essential to have on a bike before I would even think about buying it....shaft drive and liquid cooling. On today's highways you never know when you will encounter a traffic jam. Air cooled engines will over heat. I've seen more than one pull onto the berm to cool off when stuck in traffic...while my liquid cooled machine rumbled on.

Air cooled engines are a little less comfortable but they have one less thing to break. If you will be doing a lot of low-speed riding in hot weather, you may want to look into a water-cooled bike but if you'll be going over 15mph or so more often than not, the air-cooled should do you just fine. I've had some sticky, uncomfortable moments stuck in traffic on every one of my air-cooled bikes, but they were never long enough to make me wish for a radiator system.

I don't know about 2001 but i have a 2005 kawaski 250 nija and it's air cooled...It's not a draw back...I think it keeps your motor cooler...Pros are kawaski is an excellent motorcycle and mind gets 77m.p.g. and for a 250 it can keep up with the best of best...
She really has the power when you need it,And kawaskis are made to hold up...The only cons i can think of is, The crazy drives in their cars and not seeing you or just not paying attend to us on a motorcycle...And getting to close to our rear end of the motorcycle...

I'm pretty certain its liquid cooled, although all vehicles are ultimately cooled by air (what do you think the radiator does?transfer device)
The ninja 250 has a radiator as well, its the box thing on the front inside fairing. there are small fins on cylinder head for styling

Air cooled doesnt run as consistant as a liquid cooled I wouldn't consider that a really big deal, liquid is better but, hey. As far as having problems for a 78 you may need to tune the carbs somewhat often,ONLY,if you no what your doing. If not it wouldn't cost to much to have a proffesional do it.Above 1st sentance consintant as far as temperature,in the begining of this paragraph.
