Near the end of the pregnancy sperm can mildly stimulate the cervix and help the on set of contractions, but it is rare and unlikely. It certainly will not cause you to go into labor prematurely.

This is only my opinion but Im going to say yes...here's why...

When I was pregnant with my last (set of twins) I was at risk of premature labor..the doctor had my husband and I stop having sex because the contractions during orgasm can bring on labor contractions and soften the cervix...the way he explained it to me was to give me the following example...he said have you ever had sex (while not pregnant) right before your period is due and after orgasm you get some cramps...cramps are your uterus expanding simular to contractions to expel your menstral fluid..etc

So go ahead and have sex just make sure that you have an orgasm too...it cant hurt and you wont be able to for a little while after so enjoy it while you can...

Good Luck....

Yes, i beleive that sex helps induce labor , (sometimes). Semen helps rippen the cervix and induces labor sometimes.
Another thing that helped for me, was to pinch and play with your nipples. It let loose some kind of chemical that goes directly down to your cervix. Same concept of have after birth contraction when your child is breastfeeding. It helps deliver the placenta. And actually heals you faster.
I think the pinching nipples worked alot better than sex. Try out some things. Every mom is unpatient when her child is over due. But still the child is in the Lord's hands and will come out the He is good and ready to have him come out.
oh.... another funny thing i did was ride on the lawn mower over bumps in our yard. ahaha don't know if it helped, but made my husband and neighbors have a good laugh.

I'm by no means a medical expert, but I've been told that if you're fairly close to having the baby, having sex can help induce labor - usually a good thing by that time if the baby's ready to come into the world =)

i actually read something in one of my nursing magazines just yesterday about this. apparently, there are studies that have been performed around the US and they all come to the same conclusion - sex in the 9th month will NOT induce labor. seems to be that used to be the thought of most people, but the studies show that this is not the case and in fewer than 25% of the cases, labor was induced. but there was more evidence showing that it was ok to go right ahead and do your business without worrying about waters breaking or babies coming out :)

Well, when I had my second child it was the end of the year. Dec 29th. I did not want to go over to January because I would have a second deductible. I asked my doctor if he would induce and he said no. His answer was "What got you in this shape will get you out. "Well. 9 months pregnant I did not want to have any more sex. Tried it any way and it did not work. On January 11th they finally induced.

*lol* sorry but do you want to go into labor...I know it might sound like a God-given blessing have sex and *pow* go into labor - finally!

But I have been pregnant several times and no sorry -has never worked for me...I was like 2-3 centimeters and still *active* and nada...

If you really want to go into labor early that's is IF you can maybe just walk more but don't stress it to much you dont want to get exhausted *smiles*

So in a nutshell dont worry about sex and late term pregnancy - enjoy it while you can - live la vida loca!

Yes, it can put you into labor. I know several women who had sex to start labor, every one did by the next day! I tried it and it didn't work, but I am the only one I know that it didn't. Some women swear by strenuous exercise, others claim lots of boiled shrimp. I think every one has myth.

funny you should ask that, cause a lot of doctors tell you to go home and have sex to induce labor...something in the sperm that causes induction is the same thing docs use to induce....BUT, i just read an article on Yahoo! this morning that two different studies disproved that theory....but hey, sex can't hurt anybody, so i'd say GO FOR IT!!!

there are several ways to induce labor naturally. sex can help if you achieve orgasm. exercise is more effective. take a 30min walk. blue and black cohosh are herbs which are also effective in both inducing contractions and regulating them. nipple stimulation is effective, and will help start contractions. finally, castor oil can work within 24 to 36 hours. i would suggest a combination of these because none are 100% effective. good luck!
