Just curious if others consider it cheating or merely and outlet for what someone is missing in their lives.

Cheating!!! Cybersex is emotionally robbing your spouse. And if you step out emotionally, physical is the next natural step.

Yes it is

While actual physical contact with the other person may not have been made, it is very likely to do so in the future.
Friendship and emotional attachments are being made and cybersex within itself is still cheating even if its cheating through the mind of someone and/or with the use of audio and visual aids ...you can bet the 'thought' is definitely there and it only magnifies and the longing to meet up with the other person also intensifies. Wither this actually happens is probably more down to distance between the parties involved, but its well documented that some people have actually crossed other countries and continents just to be with each other.
I'm sorry to say but unless this type of behaviour stops it is very likely that a full relationship can develop between Cybersex partners.

And yes, it can be seen as an outlet for someone that has something 'missing' from their lives...much the same reasons as those given for conventional affairs

'an outlet for what someone is missing in their lives' is not an excuse to do something that makes you feel guilty. If you are asking this question . . . you are cheating. However, it is a very personal question that is individual in nature.

In your case, you are obviously bothered by what you are doing (or your mate is doing it and you are bothered by their actions; same outcome) so just stop doing it or break up with the person you feel you are 'cheating' on.

Heck yeah it is cheating. The head rush is stronger via the computer. It doesn't even have to be about what someone is missing. All the things that people are afraid of in interpersonal relationships has been eliminated in this perfected media for meeting and relating to people.

Although there is no physical contact, it is still considered cheating, by many. Because you have strayed from the one you are suppose to be dedicated to, and imagined a sexual encounter with someone else.

It's not as 'serious' as physically cheating, but hurts, nonetheless.

i dont think so, since its not physical contact I dont think it counts. But what does matter is the fact that you were thinking of someone in a sexual context other than whomever you are going out with or married to or whatever!
